If I secure a less ideal date of entry and then a better date opens up and I switch dates or cancel one and book the other...what are the implications of that? Fees possibilities?

You'll lose the $6.00 application fee and incur another when you re-book.

Just remember that your “backup” day might be somebody else’s only available time. If you cancel please do so with some time to spare!

That is a really considerate way of doing it. Some would just buy both and hold on until they decide which might derail another's potential trip. So I think you are doing it the best way possible. And yeah just the service charge is what you are looking at.

Just make sure you have the one permit either reserved or at least on hold while you are checking out before you cancel the other permit. You don't want to cancel then find out that the other permit is gone.

HighnDry: "You'll lose the $6.00 application fee and incur another when you re-book."
