Let's just say, for example:

you were so lonesome for Canada that you just couldn't wait until next summer for a trip, but already had August booked with a group BWCA trip that none of the group members could change.

you didn't have much time in September, but could eek out four days, three nights during the month, anytime.

Your travel time to Intl Falls was 2.5 hrs, to Pigeon River 3 hrs.

How would you go?

Enter the Q via Beaverhouse (if you & your car can tolerate 12 miles of gravel road), visit Quetico & Cirrus Lakes.

I would head to Beaverhouse. However, if the stars aligned and Canada allowed RABC entry after season via PP I would head there.

That's a good suggestion.

First of all, get your permit at the Atikokan ranger station. It will save you an hour paddle across BH to the ranger station there, then an hour back to the portage into Cirrus. (Yes, you could do this trip in reverse and not have to backtrack as far, but a stop at the Atikokan ranger station still is preferred by our group).

Anyway, take the two short portages into Cirrus and paddle as far as Sue Falls. Take the one semi-tough portage into Kasakakwog, then portage out the west end into Quetico Lake. Work your way back to the portage into BH and you'll have about an hour paddle back to the landing.

Lots of options for nice campsites, some sandy beaches and wandering through the islands of Quetico Lake. Good luck with your planning. It's pretty doable in five days, four nights. Knock a day and night off the trip if you cut it off and return to Quetico Lake early.

Another option is putting in at Nym and going south for a little ways. Same for Stanton Bay entry. You will likely need a Canadian outfitter to drop you off at those two entry points. (You can park your own vehicle at the Beaverhouse parking lot.)

Good luck! I hope it can happen this year.

Another thing to consider is drive time from I falls to atikokan, or pigeon river to atikokan. Then the drive to your ep.

I’m not sure of the parking situation at Stanton Bay, but you can park your own vehicle at Nym. I’ve done it multiple times.

You could do a Nym-Batch-Pickerel Narrows-Stanton Bay trip and use an outfitter for one-way transport back to your vehicle. That’s doable in a day, but you can dawdle and fish and camp. We’ve had good lake trout fishing in Batch and Pickerel Narrows if that is of interest to you.

You could go south from Nym to Walter and back in 4 days. Good walleye fishing in Jesse. Walter is cool because you can catch Lake Trout, Walleye, and Northerns. Also a nice campsite on the mid-lake island. (I haven’t looked at the latest fire situation; Walter could be close to on of the closed areas.)

Walter, Lonely and Sturgeon are fine and in good shape. I was there a week ago and no fire evidence except for some exceptional sunsets.

There's a 4 star campsite on Sturgeon east of the channel between Scripture Island and the southern mainland that appears to have suffered fire damage recently. The damage is contained mostly within the site suggesting it was careless campers. But I don't know. It's not related to this year's fires
