Hi folks. In light of the most recent closure announcement I just wanted to put this out there. If you are cancelling an equipment reservation with an outfitter and you are in a position to be able to just forfeit your deposit as a donation, please know that they will be SO GRATEFUL. It makes a huge difference. We are, of course, totally willing to give refunds as that is the right thing to do if folks request it but man, any little bit helps right now.
I reposted this from my Facebook post: The outfitters are still doing a lot behind the scenes for many people. They are reaching out and letting people know of the current situation, updating them as new information is released, working on refunds, even outfitting the USFS teams with equipment so they can sweep the areas to make sure that everyone is out. They are also keeping track of, and identifying, people they may still be out in the wilderness by non-returned equipment, by vehicles left on their property, and even checking parking lots taking note of vehicles that still remain and letting the USFS know. Many, if not all, are going well past what is expected. Let's help them out.
Hi Clare. Great thought about donating the deposit to outfitters that people had to cancel gear from. Just another thought. Do you or other outfitters have as part of your business insurance package something called "business interruption insurance"? I owned a business for many years and had it, but I never had to use it. I primarily included it with my insurance plan in case there was a fire or tornado or something.

For all of my tax clients that I have heard having a business interruption insurance plan, it was like really well aged swiss cheese.... lots of holes in the plan. Never heard one actually getting anything, unfortunately.
