I am looking at doing a PMA trip next weekend solo, and I was checking out the area north of Louse River. I dont show this area on any PMA map. Is this the Bermuda Triangle of the BWCA or am I missing something? I am particularly interested in John Elk Lake, it looks "fishy".

Any ideas or rumors you have heard of?

I think that area is closed until 9/30. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/superior/news-events/?cid=FSEPRD950047

You might want to contact the forest service to confirm.

If you search John Ek (Elk) on here you can find some reports of people attempting it.

That area is not in a PMA, and thus has made it very difficult for legal exploration. On trip reports it took a full day to bushwhack in, but you can't legally spend the night because it's not a PMA and there are no official campsites. With the recent fire it might not be as much of a bushwhack at least...
