Arrived at entry point to find another party coming out, they made it through the first portage but current was to intimidating to continue on. I’m going to give it a go tomorrow morning but I’m wondering if anyone has thoughts on how to load a canoe for paddling into strong current solo. I’m in a Northwind Solo canoe.

Be safe. In the ice out thread someone posted that they got overturned in the current near North Fowl today. They were lucky to survive. Water levels are insanely high.
I entered at Cross Bay with my younger daughter when she was 5 right after a big rain storm and it was a scary adventure. The current was so strong we couldn’t get to the 2nd portage landing. It kept spinning us around and sending us back down stream. We ended up going into the woods and dragging everything through knee deep water through the trees. I imagine it’s worse now.

Read that post and after consideration I booked instead to go in another way. Current is insanely strong and I decided discretion is the better part of valor. It looked to dangerous on Cross River.

Taco - check out the recent posts over on the Ice Out Estimates thread. Based on an incident that occurred today it sounds like you made a good choice, the paddler lost all of his gear and his canoe. Be careful, conditions are dangerous in many parts of the BWCA right now.

I canceled too. Was set for #50 on 17th, changed to #37 on 20th. ThankYou Rockwood! Thanks also to TacoOverland and the forum for making me aware of the problem. Now what do I do till then?
