I’ve decided to jump in and get a Whopper Plopper. It sounds like it catches northerns not just bass. How often do you get bit off? I’ve searched the threads and have seen only one reference to using a leader. I’m sure it affects the action but how much? I’m also cheap, so there’s also that. Does anyone have experience using a leader? Thanks!

Hey Fritty,
My young daughters prefer whopper ploppers and we tip them with fluorocarbon leaders most of the time. I've also used a titanium leader. Neither seems to impact the WP action too much for our purposes. We do fish them fairly fast so that may help our cause. I've used an oversized swivel to add a little insurance and tied directly to braid from there...only one bite-off that I can attribute to that setup.
I'm sure some purists who catch more fish than I do will have better advice but that's what works for us.

WesternHills: "NDYakAngler is a popular pike/smallie fisherman on youtube that loves to use a whopper plopper. This video shows him doing just that, and he explains what leader he's using and why.

Looks like I was too slow...nice find, WesternHills. :)
