I just returned from a weeklong stay in the BW. Fall Lake entry point. The trip was wonderful, went with a few buddies, did a great loop and had a great time.

The only thing that took away from it was last Thursday. As we were hanging at our site just north of Pipestone Bay, we began to hear all sorts of noise coming from the water. Our site was a bit hidden in the woods (not right on the water) so went down to investigate. We saw a group of 7 or 8 guys in 3 boats.

They were quite literally yelling at the top of their lungs, cussing, complaining, and causing so much noise it was ridiculous. At one point someone in the middle seat of a 3 person boat stopped paddling and was just banging the canoe. Just.... hitting it over and over for no reason. BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!
They had British accents and were yelling at one another, maybe because not everyone was paddling?

They were so uncoordinated at paddling that it took them 45 minutes to travel ~1 mile past our site (I wish I was exaggerating). They zig-zagged their way down the water making such little progress.... I've never seen a group more out of place before and we all wondered how they had made it this far (they were heading south presumably on the way out.) We thought they might take the site just across the water from us and were already making plans on paddling over and asking them to be more quiet and respectful. But to our relief they kept going.

The last thing we heard was them performing a Native American "chant" as they drifted off into the distance around the bend....

We were absolutely astonished by the lack of respect. Did anyone else come across this group last week? And has anyone had a similar experience?

Could you see if they had outfitter canoes and which outfitter? If so, let the outfitter know. Otherwise, you could report it to the ranger station. If they picked up the permit there, I am sure the rangers will remember them and make a note.

Maybe their Londoners and this is their first exposure to this sort of thing. You may have seen their quiet side!

They were celebrating Treason Day.

Maybe they were faking the accents? Just being general idiots? I love to blame the British like everyone else, but ya never know?

Thank you for all the entertaining responses. I'm sure they were having a great time. Next time, maybe we'll paddle out with some tea and crumpets before telling them to keep it down! :)

Keep a crumpet for yourself! Ever had them? They're great.

I'm just starting to work out how to make crumpets from left over sourdough starter. Should be a piece of cake, but obviously I'm not skilled in the craft.

Jerome, not Willis?

Willis, but the other was referenced so often I felt like I read that one too.

To Say Nothing of the Dog is one of my all time favorite books! You should give Three Men in a Boat a try -- I bet you'll find it highly amusing.

The Doomsday Book in that series was absolutely chilling. I've been meaning to read the Jerome one also. Sorry for getting off thread.

Sort of back on thread. We were coming out of Fourtown through Tin Can Mike and Heartbreak Hill following a group of 3 guys. One of them was a seasoned tripper who was guiding a man and his teenaged son from Scotland. The guy from Scotland seemed totally freaked out by the trip and the hill we just climbed and the wilderness in general, but since we had been in for a week and the packs were lighter it didn't really affect us that much. I started chatting with the other man and found out his cousin owns the veterinary clinic a few blocks from our house in Texas. I was never really sure if the man from Scotland was so excited because he really loved it or if he was scared silly.

Could have been worse, they could have been Aussies. They make Brits look tame.
