My daughter is a trail runner, like 30 to 50 mile trail runs on occasion. She lives in western CO and typically runs in the mountains there. My other daughter or friends of hers support her on some of these longer runs by meeting her at designated points and supplying food and water. There have been a couple of instances where trail conditions were much worse than expected or she got minor or not so minor injuries that really slowed her down and it gets very nerve wracking waiting for her to show up at a rendezvous point. She carries her phone with her, but there is frequently no cell service. I'd like to get her something that would allow us to track her and let her signal for help if she needs it. Does anyone have any advice on a good lightweight device she could carry?
Thanks,
Nervous Dad

Sounds like one of the Garmin watches with SOS would be a good fit. Garmin Fenix? (might be discontinued, but whatever replaced it...)

I have a Garmin watch, and the SOS requires cell connectivity... That may not work for her situation, since you said she's occasionally in bad coverage areas.
A small InReach device would allow for tracking and SOS/assistance requests. Keep in mind, though, that any kind of satellite tracker will require an active subscription in order to function in the way you're looking.

Hmm. Okay. So then maybe the Garmin inReach Mini 2. No experiences with the watches. Just thinking to keep everything for a runner to a bare minimum.
