Hello!

I'm looking for a good lake that has the following characteristics:
1. Walleye and Lake Trout
2. Stained water for biomass and better daytime fishing
3. Not in a burn down
4. Small to mid size -brother has a bad shoulder and doesnt want to fight huge waves all week if theres wind.
6. Open to BWCA or Q

This is a special trip for me with my twin brother, we are getting older and he doesn't get away from the family very often. We used to go every year. Not sure how many more of these there will be. Appreciate the help finding a great lake. Really open to options if nothing fits the bill exactly.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to bwca.com!

You might consider Cherry Lake? Which fits your criteria and is close enough to the South Arm of Knife (which provides awesome fishing opportunities for all species if the weather cooperates) for a doable day trip. Lots of good lake trout options in that area on smaller lakes - Amoeber, Ester, Rabbitt, Sema etc.

My outfitter last year spoke highly of Cherry Lake. Right nearby is...Lake of the Clouds? I forget the name though a bit north of Cherry Lake is a lake which is very high elevation & has no water flowing into it, a rarity in the BWCA

Cherry lake is a great suggestion! Honestly its burned into my mind as one of the prettiest lakes in the BWCA, I've only fished it one day and we didn't do well (thats fishing) so it didn't pop to top of mind. Its going to the top of the list!

Another vote for Cherry. One of our crews all time BW memories came from Cherry. My son caught a 32" walleye that may still be swimming since we took a few pics and released it after measuring. My 8 year old nephew also got hooked on the BW by catching nice size eater walleye the first night out on Cherry.

Beautiful lake that has a tough portage coming in from Hanson that kicked our butts on a 90 degree day. But don't let that scare you.
