Very nice. Of course I am partial to daughter and dad trips. :)

Was interesting hearing about the improvisations (utensils etc.) you made on the fly and keeping an upbeat attitude all around despite the frequent storms. Well done.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Looking forward to hearing about your future adventures. We're going in through Kawishiwi Lake a couple weeks after you so, I expect prompt efficiency in getting that report out ASAP! ;-)

Mr Fox helped remind me that we brought "Lizzie" along on a trip many moons ago. I believe the photo was taken on Winchell Lake. :)

Wonderful report. I've been through that area and really enjoyed reliving it. Very nice photos to go along with it. How could you not enjoy a trip with your daughters. I've had my daughter up there twice (once she was 5 and once she was 17) and cherish every moment of those trips.

Wow, such great pics and a fun report. I had to chuckle because I forgot a utensil on my solo to that same area and improvised with an extra tent stake. Definitely impressed with your nifty woodworking and taking notes for my next (inevitable) packing fail.

Congrats on an enjoyable trip with your daughters and keep those trip reports coming!

Very nice.
Reminds me I need to trip with my daughter again.
Although my packing system is near fail safe, and I have not forgotten something in years...
I kind of enjoy forgetting something, and having to put your skills together, for a solution.
Nice utensils !

What a fun read and really enjoyed all the pics! I worked for an outfitter for 3 years and packed equipment for hundreds of trips. Only ever forgot 2 items, utensils and white gas...for the same group! Oops! They took it like champs and even brought me the handcrafted utensils they made. Lots of free t-shirts handed out that day!!

Great report! I have been going with my dad since I was about 13, and the Kawishiwi river was my first trip! Sentimental from the daughter side here. I love trips with my dad.

Thank you, TB, for the kind words. :) You are certainly one of the master trip report authors so I appreciate your feedback.

Considering this is my first report and I've got almost two dozen left, I'm not sure I can commit to the Kawishiwi report in time for your trip! :)

If I do learn something important on that trip, I'll send you a note so you can be aware...least I can do with all of the information I've gleaned from your reports.

So I'm in good company then, Sunrise Paddler! Using the MSR groundhog for your oatmeal...nice!

Glad they took it like champs...that's important, I think, and one of the great lessons the wilderness can teach.

Hi WhitePine, your note made me smile as I just received a text from my oldest at college essentially saying, "Hey Dad, so there's this guy that might like to come with us on our trip this summer?" Roller coaster of thoughts but mostly happy she's happy. :)

Do you have a favorite entry point with your Dad?

Great trip report, YetiJedi! What a nice read. Amazing photos, too! You're lucky to be able to enjoy those experiences with your kids. And they're lucky to have a dad that is able and willing to take them along. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! Great trip with pics and your young Ladies! I have four daughters who have been backpacking with me on Isle Royale and canoeing in the BW and Algonquin Provincial Park. You've raised wonderful Daughters and made memories together. I really enjoyed your pics.
03/13/2023 09:52PM
The photos were excellent.

Looks like a nice trip and good times had.

I recognize the green tint of taking pictures under a ccs tarp. :-)

I also noticed the trade off of having to deal with the mosquitoes but finding an abundance of blueberries. Looks like the berries made the trip home and were put to good use.

My daughters are also my hunting buddies - backpacking with my daughters out west has also been among my cherished memories. Thank you for your kind words, WoodsandWater!

Yep, RDG, green ccs tarp goes with us every time! I need to learn how to edit photos...but then again, the green tint makes me smile. :)

We'll take blueberries every time over a few bug bites...good trade!

Great report and love all the photos. I haven't yet convinced my daughter to come on a trip with me (she's 23 and I've been asking since she was 12 or 13), but she is slowly coming around to the idea as she has become more adventurous with her own hiking/camping. I have taken both of my sons in the past (separately due to crazy schedules but once together to Sylvania) but am hoping this is the summer they both are together on the same BW trip to create some of those same moments together with them that you did with your daughters.

I plan to show my daughter your trip report as well to show her that young women her age should be doing this with their dads and see if that sways her a bit more!

You started asking your daughter too late. We took our daughter when she was 6 weeks and she didn't argue or back talk because she hadn't learned to talk yet.

I am glad it made you smile! I am in my late 20s now and still trip with Dad. Sister started bringing boyfriend, now husband, with minimal camping experience years ago, and he's been a great addition to our trips (and family!). Best of luck to you with this new group member :)

Favorite entrance point is a tough one- Snowbank offers so many possibilities and I love Ima- so I will go with that! Seagull is a close second!

Good luck with the invite to your daughter, Natureboy. I hope it works out well for both of you. Also hope you get to trip with both of your boys this summer. It's never too late! Sure wish there was something I could do to help...perhaps this report will do the trick! Really hoping the best for your two trip options...

Very cool, WhitePine! I'm 20ish years older than you and still do an annual camping trip with my dad. We've done the BWCA for the last four years but have done trips all over the country over the years. It's tough to chose a favorite trip with my dad - it's a toss up between the last one we went on and the next one we are planning!

The portage into Ima from Hatchet is pretty cool and I really enjoyed the western side of Ima with the cool islands and whatnot.

I really enjoyed your report. My daughters have been on 6 trips with me, three of them in the same area. Now that they are older I'm hoping for trips with the grand kids soon! Those 6 trips are some of my favorite moments in life.

Wonderful trip report! Your photos are stunning. What a delightful oportunity to share with your daughters and I am so happy for you that they still love going. The best part of my year is when my adult son says, "So are we doing a BWCA trip this summer?" Thanks for taking the time to write this up and add all the great pics. We did the triangle route over Memorial Day weekend 2022 and once before as my son's first family BWCA trip...each time entering from a different direction. Always delightful.
