Beer for scale. It works in heavy overcast/light rain, as this message was uploaded via the new toy.

It is a starlink (mobile satellite internet connection). Specs, if I recall correctly, are 10lbs for the bag & roughly the same for the equipment. I’d put it at 20-25lbs. Awaiting the EcoFlow River 2 Max & 160W panel to power it (closer to 30lb combined). Full kit, I’d estimate 50-60lbs. It should provide several hours of uptime per day & have juice leftover to power my existing gear (so my current panel + battery are now redundant & that saves probably 15-20lbs). Looking forward to sharing live content with you all, especially the meteor shower next month!

Are you using these at home? I have Ecoflow Deltas as well. I would never bring them into the BWCA, however. Way too heavy and way to expensive if there was a capsize.

Why to you need that much power in a canoe? Am I missing something?

I’ll be getting the River 2 Max, a more portable & nomad oriented battery. It is 500+Wh, which should be ample to cover my existing needs (cameras, torches, radio, zoleo, gos, etc) & the new addition of the starlink. Starlink consumes 50-70W+ & I’m targeting to only charge/discharge the battery from 20-80%, so that leaves a bit over 300W usable power. It’ll be kept in a sealline roll top bag which used to hold my camera gear & that inside of a CCS pack.

Most folks have no need for something like this & seek the woods to avoid it, I get that & have that in me as well. I wouldn't be considering it if not for the amount of time I'm off-grid vs on-grid. If I'm going to spend the winter here in addition to the summer, I need off-grid network access to upload content. Hoping to livestream the meteor shower next month :)

I get it now!

I have done a lot of research on off grid living. We have a lot of Luci lights, both the original and the new 300 watt versions. Also the string lights.

Lots of 20,000 ma chargers with solar panels with them. Sat phone with solar charger. Propane stove as primary, with twig stoves (Kelly Kettle) and solar stoves as backup.

First aid kit as well as trauma kits.

I have several Ecoflow Deltas, as well as a 12,600 watt portable generator and a much smaller 2000 watt very light generator. I would not take the Deltas or the Wen 2000 into the BWCA however. I would rely on solar panels to keep the several brick chargers I have charged.

Sounds like you're doing more than researching off-grid living, you're on your way to it!

I've heard good things about the Luci lights, I may have to look into those now that I have a bit more juice I may be able to add a new light :).

Sounds like you like EcoFlow. I'd not heard of them prior to my recent research, I'm a bit surprised I did not come across them when outfitting myself fall 2021. They seem to get good reviews & the price I got was unmatched vs competitors. Solar panel + battery arrive next week. I am pretty certain where the battery will go & that it will fit well though I'm a bit more nervous about how the solar panel will fit in the canoe. I'm hoping that it will fit on top of the CCS bag which lays on its face.

I have two of the Ecoflow Delta 1300's. One will run a full size freezer for 24 hours, a full sized fridge/freezer for 14-16 hours. The best part is that they will do a full recharge in one hour plugged in to the AC. If using the 160 watt solar panels, ten hours.

I’m looking forward to the cold glow of MacBook and Microsoft Surface screens lighting up the night sky of every campsite in the BWCA. Stereo amplification of every digital sound imaginable, including hip-hop music, Netflix drama’s, live cop shows, Sesame Street episodes, and Sunday Morning church services will now be sharable experiences.

Awesome.

That likely isn't too far off, with limited Starlink supposedly coming to TMobile, though it's not here yet. If folks wanted to do the activities you mentioned, they could already by archiving their media offline. At least for now, cost + weight & bulk precludes a lot of that - not too many folks will shell out for a starlink, service, & solar + batteries to power the system & then schlep it through the wilderness. When it does become more accessible, imho, it will impact lakes like Ensign a lot more than other places deeper in the bush.

WELY broadcast a local Lutheran service on Sundays, so that one was already present in the wild for anyone with a transistor radio.
