Sad week. Lost my paddling partner pup after many tandem and solo trips. He was 13, Husky/Shepard/+ mix. 65 lbs and completely behaved in and out of the boat. Always got nice comments when folks would see me and Harpua on solo trips in my Magic. He was very heathy until he was diagnosed about 2 months ago with a rare and somewhat aggressive vascular cancer right after returning from a great 60 mile canoe trip. Hope he’s still riding the waves somewhere. Rest in peace Harp….

I am so sorry for your loss. The only bad thing about dogs is that they can't live longer.

I'm so sorry! I'm going to give my coonhound, Ellie, and extra bone in Harpua's honor tonight.

So sorry. We recently lost one of one of our cats to a very aggressive cancer. Not much time to adjust to losing a good friend. And I can see in that photo what a good partner Harpua was. You can see the caring in his eyes.

Sorry to hear this. It's funny how attached we cam get to our animals. Probably because they usually love unconditionally. Hope the memories keep you smiling.

So sorry to hear. But, it sounds like he gave you great times and great memories.

Mine is 12 and I think she's done doing the aggressive interior portage trips. I'll still take her base camping though. They give everything for us so I want to make sure she's treated right until the end.

Sorry for your loss.

My best friends have been dogs… sorry for your loss… a good canoe dog is the greatest gift I know!

My deepest sympathy.

After 13 years that included backcountry tripping right up through his geriatric years, please take comfort in the knowledge that you gave him an awesome life for a dog.

Thanks everyone, for your kind messages. Give your pups and pets an extra hug, they are not with us as long as we might like or expect….

So very sorry ... shedding tears for you. Have been in the same boat. The void is awful. Wishing you peace and hoping the great memories at some point overcome the grief.

I’m so sorry to hear that. My condolences. Congratulations on having such a great tripping partner.

My Echo is almost 12 and each trip I go on with him I hope and pray isn’t his last. During our trip last fall I was telling him it won’t be the same without him.

It's always sad reading of folks losing their best buds.
Sounds like he lived the good life and went on a lot of adventures that most dogs could only dream of doing.
Sorry for your loss, may you always remember Harpua with a smile on your face.
