Does any know the ice conditions for Clearwater up the GT specifically? Can’t seem to get ahold of anyone that knows.

Thanks

Are you still catching those monster lakers?

It’s been a few years since I’ve tied into a big Canoe country laker. I’ve got young kids right now and my time is limited. Looking forward to the day when’s my boys will be old enough to go on a lake trout trip. I see you are still finding behemoth smallies.

Nobody wants to be the one to say the ice is OK, which I totally understand. Maybe call Buck's Hardware in Grand Marais.

I would call Clearwater Lodge, they are going to be your best local source for Clearwater lake. Hungry Jack made an update a couple days ago and they have solid ice and have cleared their skating trail around the lake.

Finally got a hold of someone from Clearwater lodge. They are not recommending safe travel on the ice right now. Hungry Jack said the same thing about Clearwater. Apparently there was open water in the middle early last week around new years.

Yikes, good info though! With the temps they are going to get the remainder of the week and weekend I would think it will be pretty solid by this time next week at least.

I heard Gunflint lake was still open as of yesterday.

Somebody needs to get out on Gunflint in a boat and jig a few up just to say they did.

This might be a moot point now after last weeks mega-freeze, but I talked to Hungry Jack Lodge yesterday and they said pretty much all the lakes near them aside from Gunflint have around 17" of ice including Clearwater, no slush (yet). In case anyone is wondering.
