How easy/challenging is it to get through here?

I went that way in 2021 in Sept. And very low water.
To avoid Horse river on the way to Basswood Falls.
I remember 2 rocky areas that had to be carried over then.

I took this route last July with an older family group. Water levels were low. We entered Mudro and camped on Basswood. Saw 1 motor boat. The Mudro-Sandpit portage was the most difficult leg of this for sure. The river wasn't bad, a little tight, we lined a couple short sections in addition to taking the marked 12 rod portage IIRC.

Bushman's 2023 Trip Report mentions the portage and plenty of rocks in the river.

A couple of beaver damns up river have really lowered the levels.

This is one of my favorite little rivers. I don't know why it's just cool.
Yes the portage to Sandpit is steep but slow and easy is the norm for this one.

Wind picked up on Jackfish so we ended up camping half way across Jackfish but the camp we picked was fab!

I also love the Basswood River and Crooked lake. I've been that way several times and it never gets old even with the crowds around the falls. They disappear in a hurry once your paddle hits the water after the falls portage.
