I have three questions I would like to ask:

1. A group of four are planning on base camping on Saganagons mid September looking at some good fishing and recommended camp sites. I've been all over the Quetico but never the SE corner. We will be staying for 7 days. Some have said a trip into Blackstone Lake would be a nice day trip.

2. This is a broader question. Having two canoes, how do you find the best way to communicate locations in case one party gets lost while you are fishing for the day and have established your camp? I have taken walky talky's with mixed results. Coordinating with map locations of where your fishing etc is obvious but I'd welcome any novel ideas you all might have.

3. What fishing lures would you find to be the most productive.

Blackstone is a cool lake, has lakers, pike and smallmouth; no waldos.

The portages there are challenging - may be a long day trip, and it depends on where you are camping on Saganagons. If you on the west end within a mile or two of Silver Falls, it's certainly doable. Would be a long poke from a central or eastern campsite. Plan on about two hours, either by the creek or via Slate Lake, once you leave Saganagons. Creek is probably easier.

Slate Lake is actually remarkably scenic in its own right, if small.

I'd just talk to the other guys back at camp with a cocktail around the campfire and let them know where the good fishing has been.
