hi

anyone know where to get parts of this system?

i have the 3 litre bag with the filter that you need to squeeze the water out.

i want to add the fittings and hose etc to make it a gravity system.

i've reached out to katadyn but have not yet received a reply. i also was discussing this with two local dealers (no help) and an online dealer in the usa who understood what i needed but did not carry all the parts.

i am sure i can get tubing locally if i needed to, but i am not sure i can source the quick connect fitting (male and female end). that screws onto the end of the filter.

any help appreciated.

thx
rick

in case anyone is ever looking into this......below is the response i received from katadyn canada.
"Hi Rick,
I received your voicemail message. I believe what you are looking for is 8020861 Befree Gravity Upgrade Kit. You will also need a new filter 8019641. The hose is part 8020910 - Gravity BeFree storage bag with hose - we do not have any in stock. I will check our storage unit, and get back to you.
Take care,
Leslie"
no very impressed. by the time you purchase these two kits (which gives you some parts you dont even need) and a filter, it is almost the cost of a completely new kit.
also confirmed with katadyn usa that they also wont sell just the parts i really need (the female and male quick connect).
i also just realized if the bag itself ever gets damaged, i dont think that is sold separately either.
i do like the system but if i had known this before hand i think i would have purchased something else.
thx
rick

I have the same filter kit, and honestly it's straight trash. I wont be replacing any parts, rather, I'll just be getting a new filter from someone else.

it has worked fine for me when solo. but i have always had flow issues even when it was new which apparently is common.
the wife and i are doing a 5 day trip in august and i needed to improve it to make life a bit easier out there seeing as i will need to filter twice as much water with her along.
i am hoping having a new filter will help. would have been nice to just hang it and let it gravity feed into our nalgene bottles.
i may try to rig something up if i can find parts that will work locally.
but i would not recommend the product now to anyone now that i know i cannot get parts etc.
and it certainly is no good for bigger groups. although they do have a much bigger system avail. a 6 litre i think

Not certain they’re compatible with your filter, but CNOC sells custom parts to DIY a gravity filter with your own cartridge.

I use the CNOC bags combined with the Versa Flo filter (which can be back flushed with a basic syringe). All the individual parts are available from Garage Grown Gear.

Versa Flo filter
CNOC 3L bag (other sizes and colors available)

These components have been holding up really well.

I just hung my 3L upside down over a water bottle

yes i have done this as well.
but i find it a bit of a pain to try and hang it just right, and find a spot to sit the bottle just right. haha
i figured it would be much easier if i had the tube.
my current filter is toast. if i leave the bag hanging it would take an hour to fill a litre bottle.
and yes i have tried cleaning it etc etc. never flowed right from day one but has been useable til now.

This system absolutely sucks I bring 3 filters for every five day trip.
I would say on average if you can get one or two days out of a filter before it clogs you are doing good. I know I should just buy a Sawyer and I'd be money ahead but I always tell myself it will work better on the next trip. It never does.

Try putting a Sawyer water filter on the bag without their filter. I did that a couple of years back. Eventually, I just bought a one gallon Sawyer bag and filter and used that. Works just as well. I haven't used the Katydin since.

I find I am doing the same thing with Sawyer. Yes, at least you can backflush (unlike the Befree) and get a little bit of flow back but nothing like when new. After a couple days even with backflush it takes 4 or 5 minutes to fill a 1 liter bottle. I think it is the tannins in the water that really mess with water filters. So I always bring 2 Sawyers filters with and usually end up having to use both by the end of a 7 day trip.
