Looking for big pike lakes where I can take my motorized boat on. Not looking to go too far in as I will be bringing my girlfriend and it will be her first time along with my 2 dogs. I was looking at fall lake entry point and possibly head towards basswood as I heard they got big pike but it all depends on how the lady will do with helping me portage my boat. Looking to go mid to late October.

Basswood, Basswood, Basswood.

Those waters hold massive pike and the lake is motorized. Given what you wrote, Basswood is your best option and it isn't even close.

Agree about Basswood although you might think also about Voyageurs with Namakan and Kabetogama. Their boat sites have nice tent pads. You could even do the houseboat rental thing. If you are motorboating the Moose Lake entry to Basswood is easier plus you get the "jeep" carry-over at Prairie Portage. The problem is those permits are usually harder to get than Fall Lake. LaTourelle's also have tent cabins on Basswood they rent out, but have no idea about availability. They can also tell you about where to fish and what they are biting on. Out of Grand Marais you have Sag, another big lake with good fishing. The third option is to just stay in a resort.

I apologize for somehow missing your entry date. It can be cold--even very cold--in mid-late October, sometimes even snow. That is why I would lean towards staying in a resort near the BWCA, like LaTourells or one on the Gunflint.
