Does anyone know if Fall Lake Campground allows camping after October 1, or do they lock it up until May?

A few years ago when I was going to come up to Ely to pick up a canoe in Oct., I spoke with someone at the ranger station and was told that there are a few campsites just to the right as you are going down to the boat ramp that are not secured by chains or cables for the winter. It is apparently OK to camp there.

I was told that the water is turned off and, of course, all of the bathroom stations are closed, but the pit toilet in the parking lot would still be open. If I were you I would call the ranger station and confirm that this is still OK. I think I talked to someone in the recreation department.

Yep. Ranger confirmed. Fall Lake closes completely to the public 10/1. Fenske, Jeannette, Birch and S. Kawishiwi are open until 10/21.

Hate to steal the thread, but on a related note does anyone know when reservations open for Fall Lake Campground next May and June?

Assuming that all campgrounds open reservations at the same time, you should be able to make reservations by late January at the latest. Last year I reserved a site at Sawbill the day that BWCA permits opened up.
