I’m heading in Homer Lake EP May 20th. After reading the other thread it makes perfect sense I should pick up my permit at an outfitter instead of the Tofte ranger station. It was the first thing that popped up on permit day so I selected it to complete the transaction asap. Does make more sense to get it at an outfitter for the reasons stated, plus I always need a few things and it’s more fun to meet the people at an outfitter, support the biz etc. Might need help with the bear container thing too, rent whatever it is (haven’t been up last 2 years). Need suggestions for an outfitter, preferably one that has bait but that’s not necessary, I can make another stop. Never been to this area, not even sure how to get there at this point haha.
I read you can change your pickup location online. That might take me half a day but I might be able to figure it out if I am determined enuf (not so hi tech)
I know you guys will help me figure it out.

Thx a million for your help, scat

We have been working with Sawtooth outfitters for many years and have found them to always be pleasant, helpful and efficient. They also have a nice little store there with gear, food and apparel(we always seem to find something interesting there that we 'need'). It is right in Tofte so not out of your way at all. Highly recommended.

Hope you enjoy the Homer Lake area, it is one of my favorites. Good fishing!

Sawtooth Outfitters is right there in Tofte and has a great store there. Don't know about bait, but I highly recommend them. Good, knowledgeable folks.

Done deal, Sawtooth it is. I’ll try & figure out how to change the permit location online. That might prove challenging but I’ll figure it out eventually I hope. Thx guys, much appreciated.

Let us know if you can change it online. 2 years ago, they removed that feature, you had to call in to change the location. In the past it was easy to go in and change. Maybe they changed back, I’d be curious to know your experience?

T - In case I can't figure it out, which is imminently possible, who do I call?

After 15 min of dinking around with trying online I gave up and I think I found the number on this site of all places in the permit overview section. I'll report back with my results. I called & it said they open @ 10 am. The number is 877-444-6777 if anyone else needs to change their permit pick up location. Wish me luck haha

I always stop at Sawtooth when I'm heading up the north shore, whether i need a permit or not.

And I buy my bait at the 2nd Holiday station in Two Harbors

The Tofte Holiday has bait as well. I'd just give them a call on the way up to confirm they have what you're looking for. I was in there late last week and they had an abundance of live and frozen bait.

Got it done by calling that number, had to have a call back, transferred, the usual... but it's a done deal - Yay! And thx for the bait suggestions - sweet! I be good to go. Can't wait, missed the last 2 years and I like my EP cuz this might be a solo.

It does look like they reinstated the ability to change your pickup location on-line. Have not tried it, but there is link to do it.

You can change the issuing station online.
1. Go to your reservations
2. Click "modify" button on right
3. Scroll down to Cooperator or Issuing Station and click the blue "I need to make a change" link
4. Make your change

Not interested Thx. I talked to two real nice ladies which was pleasant and I hate computers. Took a half hour of my time vs all afternoon trying to figure that out online. Good to go.
Maybe that info will come in handy for someone else.
