Oh yes, done day trips out of there while on vacation in Thunder Bay. It’s a bit like Isle Royal at times, clear water, rocky, lots of boreal forest. There are trails out there going through big cedars

I know they have lot of groomed cross country trails for skiing, but at my age I still love to ski, but on a flats surface.

It does look Beautiful. Only seen it many times from the Greenstone and Minong Ridge trails on Isle Royale.

We have day hiked there before starting trips. Nice trails, lake views and few people during the week.

Other than BWCA, Quetico,WCPP canoeing, we also do “car camping.
Sleeping Giant PP has been our go-to over the years with many trips out there.
There are remote backpacking camp spots as well as an entire campground. Many of the campground sites are relatively private. The campground sits on Marie Louise Lake… not on Lake Superior. A canoe or kayak can be used easily on this lake. There are also a few
“Primitive” camp spots on the opposite side of the campground. These have no water source but to bring a vessel to collect it and bring back to camp. The sites are much more private and less-used.
Lots of hiking on the Sibley Peninsula. We also bring bikes.
It’s definitely not wilderness camping but can be lots of fun… especially on the shoulder seasons. It’s a great place to bring those friends who might not be as inclined to do the canoe trip but still want to get out.

Thanks, what is lake Louise size and what about canoeing along the shores in lake superior, all too big of water. It looks so beautiful.

Pinetree, on a windless day, dropping a canoe in the water is always a possibility. It doesn’t take much wind on that lake to make it uncomfortable. Marie Louise Lake is good sized. There are maps on the Ontario Parks website.

Paddling would be the same as anywhere on Lake Superior I guess, wait for a calm day and be very cautious.

For a general visit or hiking, it's great! If you can, get up to some of the high overlooks, they are amazing.

Canada is the best!

It's a gorgeous park with some incredible overlooks, trails, and shoreline hikes. If you decide to camp at Marie Louise Lake Campground , watch out for habituated stink badgers of the night!

My wife and I camped there 10 years back. We had three skunks come waddling up as we were sitting by the fire, about 3' from my shoes. When I jumped up, I scared the hell out of my wife who assumed I was reacting to a bear. I managed to coax them out of our camp but they came back in about 30 minutes. We moved camp to another section of the campground around 1am.

the sleeping giant area is very nice. the campground and lake are not my cup of tea but we did stay in a cabin with my grand daughter for a long weekend a couple of years ago. there is a large beach area. nice for kids. nothing special imho.
i live in the area.
nothing impressive about the lake.
the hiking is top notch. you can even hike to the top of the giant. best to rent a bike to get to the base of the giant unless you are a very seasoned hiker.
there is a cool lookout spot (i am not good with heights) you can drive to that projects out from the cliffs. yikes. great views on a good day though.
silver islet is close by. nice general store owned by a friend of mine. pls stop by. and a nice beach area.
i would not canoe on lake superior but some do. take obvious precautions. that lake is unforgiving. even in summer the waters can be deadly.
most people would prefer to use a kayak.
pls remember it is a prov park so permits are needed if you plan to park within the boundaries.
