Well, I'm signed up for the May 3rd Snake River Canoe Race (Link)
I did the MR50 last year, solo men's canoe and had a blast. I'm on a family trip during the MR Race this year so signed up for the Snake River Race. I'll be out in Montana, doing some turkey hunting next week so won't likely have time to do a run on the Snake before the race.

Anyone done the race before or paddled the section between County Rd 3 and the city of Mora (About 15 miles). I'm curious about rapids, rocky sections, any info anyone can share. Thanks!

I've done this race probably a half dozen times through the years. I've paddled it in low and high water. Not once did I hit a rock or drag bottom. There really isn't any place that I would consider rapids...more so just some swiftly moving water with a slight wave or two. Not anything to waste any time thinking about or worry about, you'll paddle right through.

It's a super fun event and some years attracts some of the top canoe racers in the state. The kayak section is dominated by surf ski's. The canoe portion has quite a few different classes, so you'll see some C2 racers there.

Perfect. That makes sense, given the lack of specifics info on the racecourse itself. Thank you Speckled! I'll bring my CF paddle in that case. I appreciate the info!

I paddle the race annually with a friend, and I agree with Speckled. The rapids are class I with clear channels and can be paddled by anyone with basic canoe skills. Just be forewarned, the serious racers do not slow down in the rapids and swifts, and expect you to yield. They will not stop paddling if you are in their way. Last year was very high water and I saw a couple swims with novice paddlers due to misjudging strong currents and eddies. So far it is a low water year, but last year was looking like that too until heavy rains right before the race. It is a lot of fun high or low water and I highly recommend.

I've done it the last 2 years and agree with the statements made. Glad you are giving it a try this year. It is a very fun event. My husband and son will be there for sure this year. I will be if I can get everything ready for my trip to the Suwannee 230 race in time.

This was on my list, but the St Charles canoe club is doing the current buster on the same day. I am still planning on the driftless paddle battle June 7th...... unless I have a family member that wants to do the Des plaines River Marathon

How did everyone do on the snake river? I did the 9.25 mile course at the current buster in St Charles in 2:06:27. Good enough for second in masters c-1, I was having issues with boat control between wind and not having the seat in completely square. It's one that has a flat deck on the rails then a closed cell foam seat on that.

I did make some adjustments and hope to shave some time on the next run
