The Nature Conservancy

This is cool. The acreage in question is near Sand Lake and includes much of Stony Lake and all of the Greenwood River. A large chunk of it burned in the Greenwood fire. Its a former Kimberly Clark property and The timber has been high graded for decades with not a single tree replanted. It's also been off limits to the public.

This is great news.

Good to hear this. I've donated to the Nature Conservancy for years. I'm sure they're doing everything in their power to continue that work, especially these days.

Thanks for posting.

great group and very efficiently run. They bought some prime oal acreage south of Longville years ago and I had wildlife photos of various species on that land they used
Human population keeps growing and land keeps getting sub divided. really bad in the Brainerd area now.

Fantastic news! I had seen this property listed for a long time…always hoping for an outcome like this. As a result, I am now a monthly donor and hope the TNC continues to acquire and protect high quality land/habitat.

I've really wanted to canoe the Stony River in that area.
It seems like I may just get that chance this year.

Good question. There are a number of logging roads that are gated. I wonder if they will remain gated. Of course the roads are in tough shape with many trees down after the Greenwood fire. Also there are several cabins. I don't think they'd want the public to have access to them. Otherwise I would think there will be some good bird hunting available.

The Seven Beaver/Sand Lake preserve would have similar management goals. My big question is what they do about rehabbing areas devastated by the Greenwood fire.
