I suspect that many of us who trek solo have made self portraits of ourselves. How about a peek at some of them?
Last season, I had my Gorrillapod along but I had my wife's old camera, a camera that I only use when I go canoeing, a camera that I could afford to lose. Despite it's being the same brand as my primary camera (an slr), I could not remember the self-timer procedure. So, I did my self-portraits the more direct way. Fortunately, the old camera has one of those flip-out and swivel view screens which makes it better than most for the direct method.
Recognizing my weakness in the area of memory, I have stashed away the operator's manual for next trip.
I offer two pics here from my last trip. One is from the second or third day, the other from the seventh day (should have done first and eighth days but wasn't thinking).

for many years i took my Nikon F and self portraits were a real hassle..i did not take a tripod because of the weight and self shots were few and far between as i had to find just the right spot to balance the camera and get a meaningful background--
then-- i got a digital with a self portrait setting
these might be a warning to those thinking about setting off on the solo path..you start off just fine--and then..well, read Heart of Darkness..... all photos are from the same 2005 Quetico solo, begining to end-
it's just a level trail thru the woods.

After returning from my first solo a few weeks back, I found a couple 50ish degree PBR's in my truck. After white knuckle paddling through the whitecaps on East Bearskin, they were the finest beers to ever touch the back of my throat.

Well, since I'm usually the photog on the trips, I don't usually have many pictures of myself in the BWCA. I decided on my first solo trip last weekend to add to this fun thread, so I put my tripod to good use.
I won't post the one where I tried to position myself too far from the camera and almost fell into the lake in my rush... The self timer is a little too short on my camera ;-)

TomT,
Those are Cabela's wading boots on over a pair of Seal Skinz waterproof neoprene socks. The socks were military surplus that had been made for British marines. They are like Brookies but without the fuzzy insides. I found them on Ebay 3 1/2 years ago.

An ancient thread about solo photos before the term "selfie" became popular... I feel the need to resurrect it and see what else has been done.
I'll add a few self-portraits of my own, but (regrettably?) do not think I have taken a solo pic with a post-2009 front-facing phone camera.

quote Alan Gage: "Day 1 and day 42 of last year's 42 day solo trip.
"
You look better after 42 days in the bush.
I always figured you for an old salty guy, your pics show a young salty guy.
PS, I've got my folding canoe now and it's my plan to do the Bloodvein River sometime.
When I get closer to the time I hope you can offer me good advise.
May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.
