hey paul-
thanks for the excellent report which helped me relive some of the experience. glad you had such a great meaningful trip! sorry i didn't have a chance to pass along any pointers-we paddled out and spent all of saturday on the road. i also really loved paull lake-we stayed at a wonderful campsite on a small north facing point on the south shore of the lake-maybe a mile from the east portage towards bootjack.

Cool. Any chance you have posted your videos anywhere? I wanted to see the one on the first day with the storm blowing. Those can be great yet terrifying experiences. Sounds like a most rewarding trip!

Paul, Thanks for a very inspirational report! Even tho my solo trips were not even close to the magnitude of your trip, I definately know how you feel being out there all alone & the accomplishment you feel when all is said & done. Congrats on fulfilling a Dream!!! You should be Proud!

First of all thanks to all of you for everything you have done to make me understand this passion and love for the outdoors better!

I have never put anything on you tube and don't know how but my sons friend asked if I minded if he put my video on there and I said no.

So I will let you know when its up. Probablly do in segments.

Hi, Paul.
Thx for sharing your trip with us. Glad you had a great experience and made it back safe and sound. Impressive pictures! Is your Northstar the same one you converted to a solo by placing a seat closer to the middle? If so, could you comment on how it worked. Did you use a regular paddle and/or a kayak paddle? I too just returned from a msdolo trip (11 days in Quetico--trip report to come soon) in my Northwind which I converted to a solo. I used a kayak paddle and it made all the difference for me (very positive). Thx again for sharing.
Rich.

PineKnot,
I used a Sawyer Ottertail paddle the whole time. Took the WiskeyJack along but it was my spare. Like the WiskeyJack but like the feel of that Ottertail a lot. I own a Yak Paddle and just don't seem to like it. Seems a little short at 240cm. And seems to get me to wet.
The Seat was PERFECT I did raise it so to have not knees bents so much. Had 4 inch drop and I took about and 1.75 off and tapered seat forward just a tad. Love the ole girl...but wish she was 7-10 pounds lighter. Like the room it offers though. The NorthStar is a real sea worthy vessel and she tracks real good.
Thanks for asking anxiously waiting to read your report.

SunCatcher,
What a great report. I enjoyed your personalized writing style and the reflections of the experiences as they were realized by you. It is a report that makes one yearn for the same experience. Your pictures are terrific and thanks for sharing.

Great report Paul... I did the trip in July with my son. We both paddled solo. I call our trip a ten day, but the first and last days were short. Although the ride in and out of Leano was a trip in itself. I gave you the two thumbs up when you said you filled up with gas going in. We ended up with less than an eighth of a tank for the trip out. We spent a couple days fishing and had good luck even though I'm only a fair fisherman. We did go into Wrist and visited the "cave" on Aegean. But I didn't know about the Pictograph on So. Aegean. I could relate to the portage into Mexican Hat. We had a tree across we had to crawl on our bellies with our packs on to get through. And the portage between Nutria and Amber was discribed pretty much as I remember it. As we rested on top of the hill there was lots of bluberries. I fell pretty hard on both those portages with double packs on. Also the portage between Aegean and South Aegean had a ton of blueberries with plants waist high. I'm amazed at all the people doing this route... I'd planned it before it was in the BWJ and heared of anyone else going. I hope to do a more challenging route this coming year going in for twenty plus days solo up there.

Like Greg just stated: It was great to finally meet you and to read your trip report. What a country we live in! What an experience! Great to see someone 'living their life in the present moment.'
Peace be with you and your family! Namaste Mitch

Thanks Paul! Your report and especially the "final thoughts" is one of the most down-to-earth and overall enjoyable ones I have ever read. Many of your thoughts were similar to ones I'd had on solo trips but was not able to express so well. You really are blessed! --Goose
