Interesting. Don't get many manatees up north...or alligators, thank goodness.

Thanks for the report.

The guy in red, in the solo, what type of canoe is that?

Beautiful pics of the manatee in the clear green water.. i didn't know there WAS clear green water, lol. It must've been cold out and cleared some of the crap!

BEAUTIFUL pics, great report!

I'm jealous. Maybe someday I'll get to explore the USA by canoe. *note to self* DO THIS* haha. I finally have something put on a bucket list!

That was one of the West Florida people, so I'm not too sure what the canoe was, but I think it is a Blackhawk Zypher. My wife has a solo just like it, so I'm pretty sure that's the make and model.

The Florida animals are different, but spotting a gator or manatee is a lot like seeing a moose or bear.

It's definitely a pleasure to be retired, and I've enjoyed it very much being able to canoe various parts of the country and to take advantage of the warmer areas in winter.

Now, however, I'm looking forward to cross country skiing up in Minnesota, as the snow has come in abundance.

Here's another picture of a manatee

Blackhawk Zyphyr. ok. Looks a lot like my canoe. 12' or less, I am assuming.

Are you coming up to the january wingnight? There'll be xcskiing there. and we've got lots of PERFECT snow up here where I live (south twin cities).

I'm jealous!! A buddy and I were able to paddle the Myaka River east of Sarasota, FL several years back, complete with alligators and such. Great fun.

Thanks for the replies. Amok, what's wingnight? I'm not familiar with this.

Costa Rica sounds good.

Here is my favorite Manatee photo. I didn't take it. It's from the Manatee Museum in Homossassa Springs.

Well, Wingnight started with a few guys getting together at a Wing place a few years ago, now, during the early Winter/late fall. Probably 6-10 of us crazy BWCA.com'ers (i missed it) got together for pizza, wings, and beer somewhere in the Twin Cities. It was a hit, and there was a great Spring Wingnight at a park where people camped out for the weekend. Very family friendly, canoeing is always available. (i am amazed at who has what, and people are more than willing to share canoes, paddles, and tips with others!). And lots of cameraderie, a few drinks around fires at night, and avoidance of bubble-headed rangers when in Wisconsin, haha. There's one scheduled for the last week in January. I was hoping i could be there, but once more, my scheduling seems to be off. I will probably be talking to ppl thru the website that night, and maybe sneaking a beer or two into my hospital stay (haha) during my stem cell transplant to celebrate the get together. Here's the link to the wingnight. January Wing Night There's another starting to be scheduled in late April/early May. It was the first one I attended this year, and I looked like crap. I was on a tight leash, but I was there! No sleep over for me at that time, but the fall one i showed up after a quick solo into the BW (seagull) I may make that into a habit, both were fun!

It's a great place to put faces with names, and don't let kanoes fool ya, he's a good guy. And apparently so is Koda, they even met this past time though I was not there when it happened.

It is also how we verified that yes, there IS a real Corndog. haha. he's stilll lookin' for another $5...

I was wondering if you ever considered the Suwanee or Santa Fe rivers sort of by where you were at. My wife and I were at Cedar Key the first week in March, Canoed and Kayaked around the Islands. Next time we're doing the Suwanee.
