I am luck enough to have a good friend and coworker of mine that makes custom knives by hand. His knives remind me of Philip Rose knives without the bulky sheaths. I have bought a couple of his knives and now he is going to customize one for me anything I want within his means.
I am asking for the following things:
1. Sheath made of kydex and leather capable of being strapped sideways on a belt or to a PFD
2. Bead blasted blade
3. Canvas micarta handle
4. Open rivets in handle for strapping to a stick in a survival situation
5. 5" blade
6. Pummel on bottom of handle
7. Straight edge for most of the blade with a small serrated section at the base of blade
8. Small grooved section at base of blade on the backside
9. Small notch for using fire striker
I am new to this and I'm stealing most of my ideas from well respected knife makers I have found online.
As you read my list do you see something that doesn't make sense or something that I am missing. What would you ask for if you could design a knife from scratch.
Here is a picture of one of his other knives that I have.

I like simplicity and function, so I would leave out the pummel (interferes with #4), serrated section (personal preference), and notch (I use a separate sparker with my firesteels).
My ideal custom knife, Dozier .

Good point about the pummel interfering, I didn't think of that. I am also not sure I would ever want to try and hammer with such a pretty knife.
The one pictured has the section designed for splitting wood and I have never used it for that because I don't like the thought of banging on the back of the blade even though it is designed for that purpose.

i am not a fan of a pummel or serrated edges in any way. My favorite knife right now is a Bark River Liten Bror. It is a semi production knife and as high of quality as most customs. My question to you is what kind of steel? What grind? That is more important than anything else. Most other things are simply cosmetic and up to the user. Choose your steel and grind correctly and the rest will be gravy.

Nice knife! My Turley Boone's Branch should be here in a month or so. I love custom knives but hate the year long wait. http://www.turleyknives.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=106604654

The knife is almost finished. He showed it to me today and it is everything I thought it would be and more. He is doing the bead blasting this week and he is working on the sheath now.
He has taken pictures of most of the steps throughout the making process. I will get them from him and post them as soon as I can.
After hearing about people waiting up to a year for a custom blade I am super excited about the 1 month turnaround. By the end of next week I will be using my new blade in the BW.
