One route we're looking at:
Fly in/car shuttle out: Palisade River - Kenoji Lake - Ogoki River - Oliver Lake - Berg River - Whitewater Lake - McKinley Lake - Laurent Lake - Lonebreast Bay - Smoothrock Lake - Caribou River - Caribou Lake - Little Caribou Lake

Anyone been to any of these areas?

Nope, but I sure like the looks of the start of that route... lots of fun water :-) How many days are you thinking?

8-9 days. We can add on as planning develops.

we did some of that route in 2005, we saw nobody. you will really enjoy this, the fishing is fantastic and the wilderness is total. maybe not as pretty as the BWCA but it is very wild. campsites are sometimes make your own in the bush types, but that is hardly a complaint.

Thanks jwartman. I've heard the portages are "good" and wondering what level of "good" that is. :)

That does look like a cool route! It seems you will have some river, some little lakes and some big water.
So, what are the target dates now?

I think we're going to try and go mid-Sept of this year. Guessing we should be prepared for anything, weather wise.

From everything I am reading, it seems a "good" portage up there is one that is blocked by only one or two downed trees!
Seems there's no "Yellow Brick Road" up there!

i really have no memories of these portages. to me that means they must have been unremarkable, similar to the quetico.

you would usually fly into Burntrock, then down stream on the Palisade. this is a well traveled route, the portages should be in good shape.

the alternate route into Whitewater would be burntrock, palisade, slim, scrag, arril, grayson river.
