I took the CJ out today little wind not bad though, anyway. Very tippy seat sits 1 inch under the gunnel. I'm gonna pick up a seat hanger and drop her down. When I was kneeling she was much more stable. Moves nicely through the water and soo much faster than the old SR17. It's going to be a little while till I become 1 with her. So I'm just gonna keep riding her hard and puttin' her away wet. Hopefully she won't be putting me away wet.

it wont take long mark, youll be used to her in no time.

If the drops are that high it is setup to be kneeled in and will feel very tippy if you're sitting. If you are a sitter (I'm not) you'll notice a huge difference if you drop the seat down. It might take a little while to get it set up just how you want it, but once you do all that uneasy tippy feeling will go away.

Try throwing some weight in front and back to simulate your packs. It will be more stable.

i think you should get to know your solo well when its empty. once you get used to that youll feel as stable as big tandem when you paddle it loaded on a trip. loaded meaning gear. :)

Have a ball playing with it JB! I lowered the seat in my Moccasin at first. Raised it as I got used to the ride. Soon you'll be doing some freestyle stuff!

I had that figured out, actually, but a quick search didn't yield any specs on it. I'm wondering what kind of design it is. Thanks!

HoHo if you find out specs and or any info on the 1990 Bell CJ set up a link here for me. That goes for anyone else who might stumble on to any info.
I read one short post from Cliff Jacobson himself about the canoe other than that not much out there. He stated it is a good beginner canoe, but doesn't hold a candle to the newer models out there now. Hay everyone has to start somewhere.

Mark right you are, kneeling pads are installed and there is plenty of room to get your feet under the seat. Thing is, as I have gotten older the old knees just ain't what they use to be. I wouldn't hesitate to drop down on my knees when the whitecaps are a rollin', just can't do it all day long. Trial and error time I'm sure with your guys help I'll get it right.

TJ had one WN May 2010, I thought it was a Wenonah Moccasin when I first saw it. 15 1/2 ft,30in widest, straight sides, slight flair at the stems, slight rocker both ends.
If it paddles like it looks it's a good high volume tripper, that can be freestyled. I could put my Moccasin over to the gunnels and spin it like a top. Wiggly at first (round bottom) but LOTS of secondary stability. Very good in wind and waves.
