Soy Genius sun-bug protection?

Anyone ever seen or tried this? I don't have babes any more but interested in the technology.

Looks interesting....I do have to say that on our trip we took in August the biting flys and skeeters did have a mild feast on our group with the exception of Aurora or I??? I did not use any type of repellant but wonder if little ones or nursing mothers have some sort of natural deterrent??? Usually skeeters and biting flys LOVE my blood and I end up with many layers of bug spray on. Guess one just has to have a nursing baby along with :-0

According to the REI specs the body suit "uses a man made version of the natural repellent found in the African Daisy."

The active ingredient is permethrin, a human-made version of a natural insect repellent found in certain chrysanthemum plants, such as the African Daisy. ...

So it is the same technology as the bug off clothing... pretreated with permethrin.

You could make your own bugfree onsies by spraying or dipping in permethrin along with your own clothes!

Good research luft - probably not for me. Seems a bit misleading then, glad REI had the details posted.

I definitely think the soy/organic cotton aspect sends one message while the man-made version of a natural repellent sends a slightly different one. However it is much easier on the baby than DEET for sure!!

I knew about the African Daisy/Chrysanthemum=Permethrin only because I researched it this summer before send M off to Menogyn. I wanted to make sure that it was safe to treat his clothes.

I think the product looks good... so many people LOVE their Bug-Off items! I just am cheap so would take something I already owned and treat that myself.

This past August I sprayed my son's zip off pants, long sleeve shirt, 4 pairs of sox, and his hat and he didn't get any ticks and few mossie bites. Said he really only wore the sox and pants while camping out on Seagull but sprayed with deet in the evening. They were playing hide and go seek in the woods so I was impressed that he was able to avoid the ticks. I am sold on the permethrin.

What age did you start using the permethrin? I love it for myself but did not retreat my clothes this last year. I was not sure with my little one nursing.

we are outside all the time. so I treated 3 outfits from birth. So for my oldest that was her preemie cotton sleepers. Then when she grew I treated the 0-3 month sleeper. they were long sleeve with feet. That way it kept the sun off of them and the bugs, yet it was cool enough to keep them from getting hot. If they got to hot I would put a damp bandanna on them (that could be treated as well). I also treated a blanket and brought along our baby cocoon (a bouncy seat with a zip up bug cover it looks like this and folds flat http://columbus-oh.americanlisted.com/baby-carriages/eddie-bauer-bouncy-baby-seat-with-zipper-25-worthington_18860739.html).

once permethrin is dry it is 100% safe.. you can suck on something treated with it and no harm will come to anyone

I am going to soak with permethrin next year as it is cheaper than buying the spray for the whole gang.

I do plan on spraying my scrubs, a pair of long pants, and a long sleeved shirt for my trip to Belize as we are going to be working in the jungle and I am just a bit worried about malaria, dengue, and bot flies!! I am hoping it will cut down on the amount of Deet I have to bath in.
