when looking at your canoeing map you'll see a shaded boundary indicating the edge of the BW and the not BW. this line is where motors are supposed to stop.

Entry 62, Clearwater lake, is a motorized lake, however, use of a motor (10hp or less i think) requires a day use motor permit, and there aren't many for that lake each day. )Clearwater Lodge has a few boats, and the private homeowners on the lake can have motors). if you portaged into Caribou there are no motors there, or west pike is no motors.

now, if you head north up to Mountain and the border lakes, there are motors allowed on the Canadian side. other folks on this board might know how frequently boats/motors are seen on the canadian side.

Fisher maps have a red dotted line indicating motorized lakes.

My solo last season took me through Loon. I passed a fishing boat on the northern end of the channel into Loon after the portage around the Devil's Cascade. It was a pretty nice fishing boat, anywhere else, but seeing it on my canoe trip really disrupted the whole wilderness feel.

It was windy, serious waves, paddled my butt off and hugged the shore all the way across Loon. Got my mind off the encounter. I did wind up camping on the Northernmost site on Loon (which is a nice site btw). I don't recall seeing any other motor boats that day and I was off Loon the next morning.

I, for one, am glad the FS has such tight restrictions on motor use.

I had a couple motor boats on Loon in 2010. they pulled up to my campsite and were talking quite loudly, like they were hoping i'd give it up to them. Ya... Right!
