Has anyone ever pulled this off? I recently bought a 15x15 ccs tarp and it's huge. I was hoping to get my wife and I under it next month. I know site selection will play the biggest role but with all the tie outs on the tarp I'm hoping to make it work.
Thoughts?

I'm hardly an authority, but I would think it would be difficult at best. If you found the ideal spread of three or four trees, it could be done, but you would have to hang awfully close together and I don't know how effective your tie outs on your hammocks would be if you use them. That being said, I think it's absolutely possible, I just wouldn't expect it to work well at most sites.

I agree with the others ... you could have a hard time finding enough space for a 15 X 15. I've got a 12' and often wish I had an 8' (For those with their mind in the gutter, I'm talking about tarp dimensions).

Three trees in a triangle. Both hammock heads on one tree and tie off the foot ends to the others. It can be done.
Three trees in a triangle are not hard to find.

I love the smell of silnylon in the morning. It smells like........victory!

I don't think finding three trees in a triangle will be hard. I just need to find them without much else around them. I have two smaller traps as back up and don't worry, I'll take lots of pictures!

Well, I managed to get the big tarp hung and our hammocks under it but I think it would be a rarity. We had a huge site full of well spaced red pine, on Agnes
we stayed high and dry in some pretty good rains and it was comforatable until my ridge line snapped int he middle of the night. The ENO turned into a sausage.
Could never dial in the incubator. Cold spots all over the place. FInally used a small piece of CCF for under my butt and that helped. Wife slept great in the warbonnet and Undergroud Quilts Zepplin.
We had a great couple of nights hanging, if a bit windy!

Jcav- it was site 1803. North west. Nice site bad landing
Oxb. The second tarp was a back up incase we couldn't get under the big boy. Doubt well try and repeat it next trip. It was a pain to try and button up when the winds switched

There should not be much tension on the ridgeline. Is role is to get you setup consistently. In fact it should sag when you sit in the hammock and the straighten when you lie down.
Sounds like you should have had your straps quite a bit higher on the tree.

The RL was an adjustable whoopie sling. Must have gotten a nick in it. I would have needed a 20' ladder to get the straps up any higher. The trees were probably 25' feet apart. That definatly put some stress on the RL.
I was under the impression that RLs were, 1- get your hammock hanging the same every time and, B- do this regardless of tree distance. I need thicker amsteel:)
As far as the incubator I've never really loved it. It will be up for sale soon. For a small weight gain my under ground quilt is the "Ron Popeil" of UQs. Set it and forget it.
