I think the last three trips in I have found the wire handle and loop in fire grates from Jiffy Pop popcorn. The stuff is handy but obviously is too easy for people to leave the trash behind.
This last trip my cousin brought in some Orville Redenbacher (sp?) in a plastic bag. The bag is divided into two portions. One side is popcorn and the other side is the required amount of oil. Worked out slicker than shizer and the garbage is light and compressable. I believe she said she found it at Target. I don't bring in popcorn but I think I will in the future. The popcorn at night on the rock was a nice treat while watching the meteor shower.

Oops, sorry, I didn't even look to see if this has been brought up before. If it has, I apologize.

If you carry oil for other cooking of frying fish, you are half way there . . . just bring along a Ziploc bay with plain old dry popcorn. We place kernels enough to cover the bottom of our pan (one kernel deep) and add the least amount of oil, to barely "wet" all the kernels. I still remember having popcorn at the huge campsite in northern Russell Lake in the Q. Nice treat. (Don't forget the salt!) There is no waste and almost no cleanup -- just wipe out the pan. --Goose

What everybody above has said... We make popcorn all the time at home and while jiffy pop or other store bought solutions are convenient, it can't get much easier than a little bit of oil and some kernels.

We like to make kettle corn at home - 1/4c oil, 1/4c sugar, 1/2c kernels. heat oil, then add kernels & sugar. keep pan moving so it doesn't scorch the sugar. When its hot you can form popcorn balls!

Really? You can make popcorn balls with that simple recipe? Wow, I'll have to give that a try. It's a lot simpler than my grandmas recipe I use during the holidays.
Thanks for the tip.

Have not had popcorn in the BW. Might have to start, though.

I will admit to having Jiffy Pop, many years ago, at about 10,000 feet in the Sierra, on a snowfield next to a lake, while drinking a couple of cold beers. Good times.

Of course, we packed it all out.

Fitgers1, you *can* but only when immediately out of the pot from popping. As soon as it cools the sugar isn't pliable any longer. I suspect you'd have better results with more sugar, or using your grandma's recipe....
