this is part of the Long Portage between Rose and Rove. 2/3 is wonderful trail, the last 1/3 not as much fun, yet still scenic.

this portage sounds scary, yet it is just a long walk. i know many people avoid it, thins out the crowds really quickly.

this is at the landing at rose lake, my daughter had just carried my wood/canvas canoe the entire way, 550+ rods. she also carried the canoe up the stairway portage at the other end of the lake. this is some really prime country, considering how easily accessible this area is there are hardly any people. i just noticed my daughter is wearing sandals, a huge no for me, but who is going to listen to their father?

So which end (or 1/3 section) is not as much fun? :)

the last third that starts at the post with all the signs and heads to Rove. more elevation change, rocky, just a tough part to have at the end of a long portage. but, to be clear.. i'd do it all over again!

I did this portage in 1987 with my brother. It was not as bad as it looked on the map.
