Just wondering if the campsite fire rings at Sylvannia and Big Island Wildernesses have metal rings around them or not? As I would like to use my Reflector oven but the metal fire rings get in the way.

Yes, they have fire rings in Sylvania. Don't know about Big Island Wilderness.

Well since both of them have METAL fire rings I guess I won't be bringing the Reflector oven but the Jello Mold Oven will go instead.

Here are some photos of the fire ring on Mid Lake in Big Island Wilderness. Yes, I am drying out firewood after a few days of cold rain.

The ring at Sylvania, at least the couple I experienced, have the cooking grate on a pivot of sorts. it swings over and away from the fire on a pin versus flipping up & over like some grates.

here's a pic:

It looks like with these type of metal fire rings up at Sylvannia Wildernesss that a Reflector oven would work. I hate the ones that are like a tire rim that are sitting on the ground.

This thread finally got me to look back in my pics from our trip to Sylvania a couple years ago. Sure enough... the campfire rings are at ground level. Your reflector oven should work fine.

I wish some other places had fire rings that were flush to the ground.

I agree. There is room for a fire and the reflector oven.
