Beemer,
I have been checking out those sources. But I have to tell you, rei-outlet has a sale going on right now on two GG tarps. On top of the sale price, there is going to be another 20% discount (the one-time discount).
Unless you folks can tell me that the GG tarps are absolute crap, that is the way I am leaning...and strongly, I might add.
However, regarding packs, I am leaning towards the CCS Pioneer, and Kondos has my interest too. If the GG Quetico were to go on a huge sale, though, I would have to lean in that direction.
By the way guys, my question above relates to tarp SIZE.

I have this tarp from Sportsmans Guide. It's good, and great for the price. I also have a 10' x 10' tarp from Thrifty Outfitters. It's good too.
Then I also have one of these Mosquito nets that can be tied under the tarp during buggy times.

It has performed well for me especially when set up like this, maybe adding a line to the center to pull it out a bit more. The key is to have one point low to the ground and the other high. It’s a nice set up for one or two people. The style is less effective with more people.
Here is a picture of a two-person trip where you can see the tarp set up.

i have a 12'x12' Noah's Tarp from Kelty. Same shape as the parawing. I have used it on a few group trips and for even a couple guys i wouldn't want anything smaller. I have not slept under it (hammock or otherwise) though if that is one of the things you hope to do with your tarp. i like my mosquito free tent too much...
