My wife and I are doing a loop from Robinson in a couple weeks. We are getting dropped off at Washington island. Anybody have an opinion on the Kett/Nub route versus paddling the Basswood River to get to Robinson? Is one route faster, tougher, scenic, or crowded?

I went Basswood River several years ago. We were dropped off around 9-9:30 at the portage in Back Bay. We managed to make it to Robinson by 4 that afternoon. Basswood River wasn't to crowded till we got to the Lower Falls. Every camp was full. Moose Bay is a really neat paddle up to Robinson.

I was on Robinson a few weeks ago and came back via Kett. There is nothing remarkable about the portages from Basswood to Kett except the length. I would say Kett is the fastest way to Robinson. However, Basswood falls and the river is rather pretty and if time permits, it's worth the paddle. Might as well go in one way and out the other. It's best to go with the current of the river.

Since we're on a private forum, I'll tell you that the campsite on the point on the north end of the lake on the west side is dynamite. I didn't stay there but paddled past it and it look beautiful. I stayed on a campsite on the southern end of the lake on a big point and it was nice too. Plenty of room for me and all the damn black flies. Good lakers in Robinson too. Enjoy.

I thought I would be sharing the lake with people but I saw nobody when I was there. Priceless.

Well, thanks a lot for the info. I think I have that site dotted...well north on the west side across from 3 islands? I went through these areas almost 2 weeks short of 30 years ago, and all I remember is swimming on some sandy beaches and paddling up a river looking for bikinis. We had run out of food by the time we hit Crooked Lake.

I read back a year or two ago on the qj where Intrepid Camper did the Greer to Kett route. Might be a neat side option.

Kett to Greer is a cool route. Wilson a really cool lake. Though much easier to find the portage from the Wilson side than the Kett side.
