kanoes, spent a couple hours today enjoying the perfect weather on Jake's patio...with a couple Hop Dish by Liftbridge Brewery out of Stillwater. I think you would really enjoy it...heavy on the hops and with the same notes of pine and citrus that Ranger has. Up there near the top for me.

Just got home from the jar store where I found 22oz bottles of Stone 17th Anniversary Götterdämmerung IPA on sale for $2.69 each. Just bought one and will sample after it's chilled. 9.5% ABV. If I like it, I will go back and probably buy them out (looked like around a dozen bottles available).

mmmmmmm, this was very good. Interesting. Uses German hops which are less citrisy than American varieties, but still has the bite and bitterness. Almost a black pepper quality to it. I'll be going back tomorrow for more. Powerful stuff. And I don't ever worry about buying IPA's that are out of date- that's why IPA's were invented- hopped up to survive the long trip from England to India back in the day.

"the best" is in the palate of the beholder. right now, i have to say i havent had anything ive liked more than steelhead. its a treat for me cause its over $10 a six. a little smokey, not as citrusy as ranger or torpedo. most expensive DOES NOT mean the best.

kanoes, you are right, price does not dictate quality. I recently tried the Ballast Point Sculpin which is expensive and wasn't that impressed. Ranger has been my long time favorite for locally available IPA's and I also share your taste for Torpedo. Pliny the Elder is more like Ranger but only more Rangerish...hope you have the chance to try it sometime. It is not all that expensive but has a very narrow distribution (west coast) so it is very hard to get a hold of. I have not tried "Steelhead"...who brews it and can you get it locally?

Hands down my favorite beer is DogFish Head 90 min IPA. We don't get it distributed in MN, so anytime I get a chance to try some it is a special occasion.
On a side note, they used to sell DogFish in WI, but a guy in River Falls told me that they stopped distributing it there because they couldn't keep up with demand and DogFish didn't want to be known for that (whatever that means)...hard to believe, but of any state, WI is the most believable

"
Yes. Most large groceries stores-- even some smaller ones.
Moosewatcher--- I will be on the N side of the Twin Cities this Holiday wk-end. If it would work out,, I would gladly pick you some up.
