Ober - we are taking the Falls Chain to Kawnipi. Probably go up to McKenzie Bay area. How about you? Most likely come back via the Falls Chain as well.

We're going to leave PP and go up through Agnes, Kawnipi and back down the Falls, McEwen, Louisa, etc. Idealy, a 20 mph south wind could get us on the north end of Agnes on day 1. Days 2-4 we'll be on Kawnipi.

I was going to do that exact trip last year. It was to be my brother in law, on his first Quetico trip and my 13 year old son. My brother in law bailed 3 days before so my son and I scaled down the trip a bit and went from Agnes, through the S-Chain and back to PP.

Someday, I will do that trip. I would have done it this year, but I wanted a change of scenery.

Who knows, maybe we will run into you somewhere on Kawnipi.

Ober, where do you plan on staying when on Kawnipi?

I've never been there, but the plan is to stay on the SE part. Probably the Kawa, McVic, or McKenzie bay area. My wife is pretty hell-bent on seeing waterfalls, so we'll be closer to that end. Let's hook up, have some whiskey and tell fish stories!

Sounds fun. My buddy and I will be kicking back driking our JD. We are leaning towards going to McKenzie Bay, but may go to the upper part of Kawnipi at some point as well.

Fishguts,

We expect to be leaving Prarie Portage first thing in the morning. Where do you expect we would cross paths? I'll watch for you.

So far it looks like - Sarah, Brent, William, Conmee, and Burt lakes are on the hit list. Fair warning, I know this is your stomping ground, I'll tap your brain for fishing hotspots.

I just looked at your start date.... 28th...we end our trip on the 27th....so we will both be in Ely on the afternoon & evening of the 27th.......we are staying at the Adventure Inn Motel that night. We should hook up and we can pass on info! We are planning to have dinner at the Ely Steakhouse that night too.

Who takes you to LLC? or do you paddle the LIS River? We are catching a ride with Zup's this May.

04/16/2008 09:36PM
For LLC I use Randy Stern at Gateway Resort. He has a jet boat and takes you up the loon river. He operates out of Gateway Resort. He has the most entertaining ride and the cheapest prices, plus he gives you free beer or soda when he picks you back up. His website is down right now.

04/16/2008 11:58PM
We are fully outfitted by Doug Jordan's and he takes us to Crane Lake in a van, and has Zup's give us the tow. Works fine.

I tell ya, that complimentary beer or soda goes a LONG way after 10 days in the bush. We've been with 4 different outfitters in 5 years and none of them have ever brought a beer to out pick-up point. The guy at Gateway obviously has been out on a trip a few times and knows what it takes to keep a cu$tomer.

04/17/2008 08:58AM
Maybe..............but I don/t drink....????
so it does make that much difference to me.

04/17/2008 03:55PM
Fishguts you don't drink Soda? Randy will get what ever ya want doesn't have to be beer.
