Are there any Sony NEX users in our crowd. I personally shoot with the Alpha NEX-7

I'm looking to hear about others experience with certain lenses, as I am considering adding to the collection :)

Most recent work with the NEX-7

I am just now switching from film to digital believe it or not. I am selling off all my camera and darkroom equipment, moving from medium format, 4x5, and 8x10 film gear all the way to the NEX-7. Quite a change. So I don't have much work done on the NEX-7 yet.

My kit is now 4 bodies (I hate changing lenses on these little things) and lenses:

Zeiss Touit 12
Sony Zeiss 24
Zeiss Touit 32
(waiting for the Zeiss Touit 50)

The Zeiss lenses are really sharp. Much better than the standard Sony lenses, but much more expensive. A good resource for used gear is KEH. I bought 3 bodies from them and they clean them. I updated the firmware and they are just fine. The 12mm Zeiss is super wide so if you are deciding which lens to get first, for for the 24 or 32. Going used on KEH can save you some. You could also try them out for a trial period by renting them from one of the online rental companies.

I also have the Sony 10-18 which is a very nice lens. The build quality seems much better than the kit zooms.

I should have added that I am taking RAW images and developing the photos in Lightroom which is a great program. I can do a day's worth of real darkroom work in 10 minutes.

Nice Lenses!
My small collection
18-55mm KIT
55-210mm
30mm
16mm
1.8/50

I have yet to pull the trigger on any else besides the Sony brands.
-Do you lose anything by going to the different brands? Image Stabilization, Auto Focus. Not sure when this info entered my brain... but it's there..... ha

- If i had to add one lens, what should it be?
- Which is your personal favorite?
- Not a huge fan of my telephoto. I'd like something better/longer.
- I use and love Lightroom
- Never heard of KEH, thanks for the tip.

KEH is well known to film based photographer's and a good resource.

Looks like you have the lenses covered with a mix of zooms and primes. There is really no long lens to get unless you get an adapter and use other lenses which seems to defeat the purpose of using a little camera.

So if you are looking for the next lens:

Sony 10-18 - super wide, includes focal lengths you don't have, would be useful in BWCA esp around camp

Sony Zeiss 24 - could sell the 16 to help pay for it unless you really need a pancake lens. The 24 is outstanding

Zeiss Touit 12 - great super wide prime lens. On the large size and expensive. Judging from your kit you would probably prefer the Sony 10-18 zoom which is very good.

FYI, I just got a new accessory for the NEX-7 that I think is worth getting. It is a Jim Buchanan bracket with L-Grip attachment. It is similar to Really Right Stuff, very high quality. The bracket screws into the base of the camera and includes an Arca compatible wedge on the bottom, an Arca wedge on the left side, and an extension of the hand grip on the right. The grip has cutouts so that you can access the battery compartment on the bottom and all of the ports on the left side. The left side plate allows attachment to tripod in vertical orientation without having to flip the tripod head and keeps the camera centered over the top of the tripod axis.
