quote Mocha: "I got nothing but dead animals so I won't post for awhile."
I know what you mean. I have a different problem. Several of my trip pictures are on film, I have a scanner but am having fun trying to figure out how to scan them to I photo. I'm starting to feel a little guilty posting so many pictures from out here that have nothing to do with the BW.

no worries about other places! just seeing photos from other locales makes me investigate vacations in those areas! I love Oregon and Washington and have lots of trip pictures from those vacations. maybe i'll find my treehouse vacation and post some from that trip!

dispute or mating ritual?"
The courtship ritual looks a lot different. I think this was just establishing a pecking order. It lasted about 15 seconds. One takes a pretty good bite in this picture.

I see that activity frequently on the Mississippi. I believe it to be defense of a feeding area. It is preceded by bobbing their heads up and down at another group, then the largest from each group will engage like in the picture. One group or the other then goes off of the feeding area.

this happened at 4:15 this morning and by daylight (7:30-ish) this is all that remained. when the wolves howled after the kill it made the hair stand up on my skin. sounded like it happened right in my living room. fortunately it was a few hundred yards from my house."
Wow, never a boring moment around your house!!

deer getting a birdie snack.
mooseplums knows how much I love to feed the birdies so he got me this feeder. it's heavy, I didn't have a tall ladder so I just screwed it into the 2x4 behind the fence. by hand!! no powertool!
this is the first I've caught anything getting at the feed.

A friend of mine from church. This guy has been fishing and hunting all over the US and the world. His house is full of deer, bear, cougar, and other four legged mounts of all kinds. The fish mounts from around the world are spectacular. He now has an eleven foot alligator on display! One day after church he got to asking me about trout fishing - he'd never done it before!! We spent a day on some of my favorite streams and of course he comes up with the catch of the day. I was gracious and let him take the first cast (spinners) into the pool this one was hiding in. We estimated it at 21-22 inches which is huge for this particular stream. Not bad for your first day after trout! All the while he fought it all he could say over and over again was "Oh my, Oh my, Oh my". It was released to fight another day.

I like that hand painted effect! Could you share the original again for comparison?

This was taken the first week of April 2012, early ice out year. A solo trip to Fowl Lake, Moose was still frozen.
We were up early and it was quite cold but the sunrise was happening in spectacular fashion. I was snapping a few pictures when I noticed my dog Koop was sitting there just watching it, enjoying it as much as I was.
Sunrise over South Fowl Lake
The original...
And a painted version of the original.

They are both really nice! I think the painted version is my favorite.

After 5" of snow yesterday we have clear sunny skies and temps in the high twenties!! Yippee!
Makes me think of warmer days to come and, hopefully, more canoe trips like this. These were from a canoe club paddle on the Fox river through Green Bay, WI when the Tall Ships Festival was taking place. What a beautiful day and paddle that was!

so bizarre.. I looked at this photo earlier today and did NOT see the shadows from the trees!!! this is a very mesmerizing photo."
That one was taken next to the Bloomington Ferry Bridge, Rice lake is on the other side of the trees to the right. There was a deer along the edge and I was trying to sneak closer but he bound away. Then I realize I am in a pretty good spot for this shot. You don't get this perspective from the trail. Not often I convert to black and white but I did on this one.
The snow covered trees made for some fun picture taking.
