We are planning on going into Suzanette from Conmmee this June 18th.
And out from there to Prairie Portage. Anyone have route suggestions?

There are two portages from Suz to Con...I would do the western one and hang out and fish the western part of Conmee. Personally, I like Burt. Lots of walleyes and a good population of 10lb+ fish. Great scenery, camps, and places to rock climb. Great structure.

i would go out the east end of Sue..you could hang around the
east end of Brent and fish and then to the PP by way of Mcintyer
and Sarah..i perfere the Isabella route to North Bay rather than
the Point and Nest way to the Bay...or---you could leave Sue by
way of the Darkwater River on the way to Burt--the rapids below
the small falls and rapids are good for bass..it will be going up stream but there is no real current,,there are some nice back bays
on the way to Burt..to get back on the path to North Bay go thru
Paulene and to Mcintyre..

I would skip Conmee. Remind me next week and I'll email you more info. ;-)

I would skip Conmee, but we are set on going to William and Conmee seems to be the most dirrect route to Suznette...I think?

FG--which way are you going in from??..
i have not fished Paulene--it does not seem to get much traffic.
a camp with one of those "who did it" wood piles was there and
unused--i recall the carry out to the west was sort of brushy
and not a beaten path--

Curious why you would skip Conmee? Isn't Conmee supposed to be a trophy walleye lake (BWJ)?

We are coming in from #43 McAree thru Darkey to William then on to Conmee and Suzanette......then out at Priarie Portage. So the question was about the route from Suzanette to P.P.

I will 2nd WCD's bid for the Mc, Sarah, Isabella to North route. Some of the portages on the small no-name lakes are a real bitc#, especially when wet. But they're kind of short, well groomed, and I think the quickest route.

"Curious why you would skip Conmee? Isn't Conmee supposed to be a trophy walleye lake (BWJ)? "

I'll take a guess--either OS is joking or avoid it precisely becuase it has been advertised in the BWJ so much. All of the lakes in that area have potential to catch big fish anyway.

Fishguts both portages from Conmee to Suzanette are easy. Since you have shared with me in the past take the western portage, go to the right and look for the cliff, leave a message in the jar for me when I'll be back in a couple of years if ya know what I mean. The eastern portage has a loaction marker in the middle of it, dated 1926.

Thanks! Tim! "western portage, go to the right and look for the cliff, leave a message "
Ya! OS seems to think Conmee is over rated...??

My suggestion was not a joke, and I have no hidden motive to steer anyone away from Conmee. If you want to waste time there, knock yourself out. There are better places to fish.

Hey! Old Salt,
I wasn't dishing your suggestion about Conmee, It's just that for those of us who haven't been there and have read the Boundary Waters Journals....it has been described as "Walleye Heaven" Stu even uses words like "Hallowed" to describe it. Maybe it's a myth that dies hard. I do agree with you about West Brent (I have been there) and it has terrific fishing.....walleye, trout, smallmouth.

Perhaps Stu doesn't go to Conmee...could be misinformation...

03/04/2008 05:14PM
Or maybe he goes to Conmee and catches boatloads of jumbo walleyes. He then publishes a story in BWJ about how great the walleye fishing is, then nobody goes there THINKING it's misinformation!?! Ol' Stu has us right where he wants us. Diabolical!!! LOL!

If you want to fish Conmee, go ahead and do it. I'd hate for you to miss a lunker on Conmee when you could catch more lunkers elsewhere.

Stu has a mag rag, and I don't, so he must know.

OS - I certainly appreciate your opinion and willingness to share your experience. Thanks.

I'm all for only trusting people who live in the area.

Like myself.

Conmee is a great walleye lake, but Kawnipi and 100 other lakes are probably better.

Who cares?
