We leave in about two weeks.....can hardly wait to escape life!!!! Tonight we sampled a new camping meal utilizing our new titanium pot and cooked on the camping stove. The pesto gnocchi was delicious. Cooked in about 5-6 minutes tops. Titanium pot also worked great. Now onto dehydrating black bean and sweet potato soup....
There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.

Passing through Red Lake with an overnight stop on Friday with an early AM fly-out on Saturday. If I get a chance I'll give you what I know before I'm "off the grid" for a couple of weeks.

Got back from Red Lake on Friday from a walleye fishing trip. Heading into WCPP on Aug. 10 or 11 for a couple of weeks. Planning to do a loop from Royd up through Irvine to Larus and back down, then exit out the Minjim Route. Looking forward to it.
Stopped in by Harlan and picked up a couple of topos. Nice shop!
dd...check out the water levels in Fort Frances. They were sandbagging when the other part of our crew came back on Monday.

Yeah, I've seen photo's of the flooding/sandbagging from Monday. I think the shots were taken just west of town on Highway 71/11. Apparently, there were sections under 3 feet (or more) of water.

Scot - Are you going to put in at Johnson? or maybe take Harlan's new water shuttle on Red lake?
We're doing the water shuttle 8/15 to the Douglas portage and then the Rostoul river to Mexican Hat and back out 8 days later.

You will be able to enjoy a new "high and dry" portage for the 950 portage into Lund from the west. The new portage starts and ends at the same places but has no bog.

Where did you come up with that one? :)
Might be checking out some of that country myself. Have fun Sunny!

scot320,
Royd is a Beautiful Lake! I came into it from the North from Artery up the Bloodvein, and then down to Dunstan and down to Royd and over to Donald. Have not been on the Minjim or the rest of those...maybe later in life???
Have a Great Trip! SunCatcher

I've done that route using both entries. My favorite was entering Onnie and had Harlan deliver my truck to Johnson a few days before trips end. Johnson as a loop worked pretty good too. Johnson to Hatchet to upper Hatchet to Embryo to Telescope. The Johnson loop is cheaper because you don't have to use a shuttle... but that's half the fun. :) I like spending the first night in Red Lake and taking Harlan out to diner and picking his brain. You'll like the route as it has a number of challenges and I think some beautiful country.

Thanks for the info Ben...the extra insight always helps the decision process.
At this point in my life I like keeping with the cheaper alternatives. While I would love to do shuttles and fly-ins, it would be a detriment to the adventure budget.
Result - fewer adventures per year...now we cant have that can we :-)
Love a challenge.

I hear ya... I looked at the prospect of paddling in and flying out with a couple friends. When I heard the cost of the flight out I opted to stay in and paddle out. A 14 day trip turned into a twenty six day trip. And still less money.
