Last year we did Kilburn to Middle Kilburn and went to Boomerang to Talon, then up to Paull. The last stretch / portage to Boomerang was a killer. Don't have my map handy, but anyone have experience going across the route just north of that connecting with the same portages from Talon to Paull, just not quite going to Talon. Thinking of taking my son thru there in a few weeks.

No experience with that stretch. If it helps any, there is a (sort of) new 1 km portage that goes from the northwest bay of Kilburn into the east side of Upper Kilburn.

The portage from Kilburn to upper Kilburn, 1km, is in fact a nice portage, provided their are not too many downed trees. I'm also interested in the Boomerang to Paule portage, going there in a couple of weeks, but not necessarily to Paule, we will probably keep headed west, northwest, to Talon etc. Any info will be appreciated.

Yes that new portage was literally a walk in the park. No elevation and all mossy.

I did the Upper Kilburn to Paull section in 2009 (which would be above Dragon Lake). If that is the section you are referring to ... it was a relatively easy traverse. We were there during a high water period, so some wading was necessary to get to where the portage actually started in a couple of places, but the portages were generally well mannered (other than water issues).

On the day we ran that route, we started in the upper section of Kilburn Lake and did the long down and back to reach Middle Kilburn and the Upper Kilburn before making the run to Paull ... where we stayed on the far western edge of the lake. I'd classify most all of the portages along there as reasonably tame with average (or less) lengths.

Last fall we went to Boomerang to Talon to Paull. Getting to Boomerang was kind of a nightmare during low water. Harlan made it sound like there was plenty of water everywhere so we were pretty surprised and had to make an emergency camp on Boomerang because it got so late. All part of the experience. :)
