Great! Glad to finally see the lake. I believe that you are the first to post pics of Warpaint on this site. Probably the first to have been to the island as well.
The big question... Was there a place on the island or shoreline to make a camp? I'm sure that others are now going to want to go there.
Usually, on lakes like that there is no camp site simply because there is no place to put one on shoreline. There can be a great site on a island, but they don't do that because the island is not big enough to support a latrine.
I would like to pitch a tent on that island sometime before I am too darn old to get there.

How can someone camp there without breaking the rules?

Actually, on the DNR "Lake Finder" website they list Warpaint Lake as "Big Ruby" and the contour map shows depths on the southern side of the lake dropping consistently to 49'. Ruby Lake they refer to as Little Hustler and it has depths to 70'. Visually from being there and on Google maps it would appear that there is some relatively high ground surrounding parts of the lake with some steep drop off.

By the time I got to the island I was whipped from swimming so I didn't do a great deal of exploring of the island. The northern side does have an open rock surface and we did pick blueberries on a relatively level spot ...I'm sure you could find a place for a tent. Would the off season rules allow you to make a place for a fire?

Ah, of course. And you get maximum solitude.
