I'm planning my first solo, but the permits I was hoping to find are not there.

So, with a bit of research and some reading in the Beymer books, I've found a route from Little Indian Sioux North up through Oyster and Agnes and then return on Nina Moose.

My concerns are as follows,

I've never traveled this EP. Any real bugaboos a guy needs to worry about?
How would you say it would serve as a first time solo route?
Are there concerns regarding the river levels this time of year?

My trip will be Sept 6-10. Its a easy 3 day route, but I'll build in an extra day if needed. I have heard there is some good fishing in this area.
I am more than capable of handling anything phycally demanding on this trip and I have all the right gear. I typically single trip my portages.

Thoughts, advice. All are encouraged.

I will be heading in LIS North one day ahead of you, but will be planning a loop through the outer lakes (Loon, Little Loon, Slim...on through Oyster, Lynx and out.

I have read that others on this board have completed the route that you are considering. Being a solo would require a hike (6 miles or so) back to your entry point to your vehicle. Others have stashed a bicycle in the woods at the exit and then ride it back to the car.

Good luck and enjoy!

The portages are longer on this route and there has been some water issues on a couple of them. But it's a good route and if your up for it it will be a great trip. One of the better trips when your strapped for time... And yes, the getting back to your vehicle can be an issue, Ive gotten rides, walked and even once a guy tossed me his keys and not only did I have wheels to get back to our vehicle, his was waiting for him on their side when they got out. I like the bike idea.

My first solo was in LISN #14 and out Moose River North, #16, like napinch, so I can't really help you with the route, but I can tell you it's 8 miles from #16 back to #14. It was a kind of a long walk, especially after a full day of paddling and portaging ;).

I have done solo trips through this area many times, although I head through Ramshead and then to Nina Moose. You will find much solitude on this lake. The Moose River south of Nina Moose will most likely be low during this time of the year and may require some additional work but other than that, you should have no trouble.

It's a great route. I did my first solo there, except I headed north to rocky after oyster and did a loop. I stayed on upper pauness (very late start), lynx and rocky. I enjoyed my stay on Lynx a lot. Would've been glad to spend more time on Ruby and Hustler as well. There were some water issues on a couple of the longer portages, couldn't say if that has subsided in the past 2 years.

I've been through Nina moose and Agnes as well. The moose river could be low that time of year.
