I’ve been saving all my “thank yous ” and “you're welcomes“ until the end here so as to not clutter up the previous postings. I have been biting my tongue to resist the urge to acknowledge those who have replied so kindly. Hopefully, no one has taken my silence the wrong way.

Thank you for taking the time to watch, thank you for your understanding, and thank you for all the compliments! For all those who thanked me- you’re welcome! If something you’ve seen, felt, or sensed from seeing more of my adventure has somehow inspired you- that’s awesome but don’t credit me. You figured it out, now “just deal with it”.

What I did was real but for no real reason, a challenge without a challenger, and a test without known answers. Just a line drawn on a map leading me to places that needed seeing. Didn’t mean for you to see any of it but you got a small glimpse anyhow. Glad you did!

Still Paddling,
BeaV

Thank you for sharing your adventure with us. I truly enjoyed watching the videos!

I'll just say thankyou for having the foresight to chronicle this trip. Without the video all we would be able to do is wonder. The video doesn't even show the harshest stuff you went through but some of the footage is extraordinary. It seriously deserves to be seen by a worldwide audience. You've seen me say this before but in the right hands this footage and narration could be turned into something special. What you accomplished is no ordinary feat. You're a modest sort of fellow but this trip is inspiring on many levels. I'm not sure you get that.

Some may just see this trip as a great adventure. But it's way more than that for me. It's about dreaming big, coming up with a plan and executing that plan and seeing it through to the end no matter what. It's about determination, persistence, and wondering "what's next?" what's around THAT corner, THAT mountain, and THAT bluff?"

I was dead serious when I suggested that a bar in Skagway should buy your boat and gear and display it in a case for all patrons to see. This is an incredible feat here. So, my wish is that you reconsider your position about showing it commercially and THAT will be your next adventure. If not, well then I'm just one lucky SOB who has it all on bluray. Thanks for that man.

I tell you what, BeaV.........You're one tough SOB. I'd sure want you on my team when the going gets tough....Incredible.

quote TomT: "I'm not sure you get that.

TomT- You're right, I don't totally get that. I'm trying though.

On the flip side, from my perspective, no one seems to really get where I'm at. I understand why, but am unable to change that. As I was thinking through this reply, I thought of Ed Gillet the kayaker who paddled from California to Hawaii because I know he understands.

About 26 years ago, he experienced similar challenges on his journey. I just watched, for the first time, his appearance he did on the Tonight Show. YouTube Tonight Show I can see Ed is in that first stage of relief on the show after surviving what he did. Only he had big plans to further his career with his story - speaking engagements and multiple book deals all lined up...it didn't take long and even for him, he completely shut off.

Twenty six years later, he finally agreed to talk about it (see the story in Canoe & Kayak Magazine May 2014). If you want to understand where I'm at, read that article and try to understand Ed. (Hey Ed, if you read this, give me a call and we'll go for a beer and not talk)

I'm well ahead of Ed's progress, but then again, I was able to get to shore nearly every night. ;)

Don't mind the pushing to go commercial, but I don't see a way that I'd be happy with the outcome.

I have watched this several times. It is very well put together and tells a story of courage and determination and leaves you with a lot to think about.

I think I get where you are coming from on not making it into a commercial production. One thing that really resonated with me was why and how you did this trip. No sponsors and no need to prove anything to anyone else, just wanted to see some places and had the courage to pursue the dream. A very personal endeavor. If you were to commercialize this in any way it would go against everything the trip was about.

Yet this story needed to be shared in some way, very thankful for your willingness to share something very deep and personal and allowing us on BWCA.com to come along with you.

Now to write the book, have a PBS series and give seminars at places like Canoecopia. Thanks for your efforts.

I watched a PBS special on the gold rush and that pass. All those long rows of folks going over that pass, and there you go alone... must have been a couple ghosts watching over you doing that and encouraging you on.
