just wondering what size wooly buggers, dahlberg divers, etc every one uses in the bwca. and also has anyone flyfished knife lake?

Never been on knife, but as for fly sizes, I bring woolies from size 1 to 8, dahlbergs 2-6, bunny leeches 3/0-2, and so on. Basically, if you stay in the 2-6 range you'll be covered for bass and pike

I've heard that a good rule of thumb is small fly's in early season and gradually increasing the size as the season progresses. The forage in the lakes in spring is generally small minnows and bugs. As the water warms and the forage grows you can increase the size of your fly's. If your trying to match the hatch this seems to make sense. This is just a general rule...are there exceptions...sure.

I agree with TightLoops. 2-6 is a good size for bass and pike. I tend to use 2-4 most of the time. Generally I agree with Fazzy about size and matching the hatch, however, we all know those bass and pike can't lay off those bigger attractor flys.

Caught my first open water pike last night (39.5 inches) on Cass Lake with this 2 hooked monstrosity. moose plums has a great point about attractors...
