i have no idea what this is but it was so delicate and pretty to be found in the rugged outdoors.

The name fits the description of delicate. That is the seed head of virgin’s bower. AKA wild clematis.

I just read on Katy Chayka’s wildflower website that another species of wild clematis grows off the Gunflint Trail on Hungry Jack Road. The easiest way to tell the difference between the two species is when the plant is in bloom. If it produces purple colored flowers in June and the leaflets are not toothed, the plant is Purple Clematis (Clematis occidentalis). If it blooms in July to August, has white flowers and toothed leaflets, it is Virgin's Bower (Clematis virginiana).

What lens focal length and aperture did you use? I really like the composition and the subject.

LL,
I like the image of the sunset reflection in the pool. It is unique and the complementary colors make it stand out.

I'm with Ausable on both of those pictures. Two very different subjects and perspectives, and two very nice pictures.

It looks like the narrows from Gunflint Lake to Magnetic. It was probably taken from the overlook on the Gunflint Trail.

That view was one of the only things I recognized from before the fires.

Oops, sorry Doc.

Hah....if this view isn't seared into your memory, you haven't spent enough time on the trail

Well, it did look awfully familiar, but I wasn't really sure. . . I did find this in my pictures, though :).

Yup, it's a red head. We camped overlooking this wetland and watched dozens of them over two days. fly to shore and grab an acorn, then out to the dead trees and bury them in the wood...for winter I presume. Pretty cool.

Another shot, view of their work.

Love the shot of the Clematis, close up photography is so much fun. You see details that are amazing...

Mackinac Bridge from the U.P. side. Not a very "wild" subject, but I do love that bridge for some reason, I never fail to be impressed by it each time I go over it.

Fishing Shacks on Lake Superior near Grand Portage

i love seeing that view when driving up the shore, esp when there are huge waves. makes me wonder about the fisherman that used those cabins when harvesting their catch.

I like to photo old shacks, houses, and barns....this was a huge bonus on my trip last weekend

This one was close to my cabin and I finally got around to getting a picture of it. It collapsed the winter after I took the picture. I am close to there now so should go see what is left a few years later. It is about 15 miles NW of Greenbush so it was in some tough country back when it was built. I wish they could tell their story.

Thank you, I don't know why my dog gets so excited by the neighbor's horses but she sure does, the horses however remain unimpressed.
