I got back about a week ago from an 8 day solo into the BrightSands lake area. Pretty good weather, constant winds, one skeet [he may have been hiding inside my tent since August] no moose, lots of fresh tracks though, fresh wolf tracks, some of the roughest country since I was up in WCPP, had to cut several portages around rapids, portages were short, most were less than 100 yards long, campsites were really bush [find a semi flat spot and set up the tent] fishing was utterly fantastic [nothing big but all the 16 to 20 inch walleyes you'd care to catch, biggest northern was 32 inch, but I didn't spend much time fishing northerns] Never saw a single person on the whole trip and only heard a few float planes that were a long ways away. Used my twig stove the whole trip, never had my Peak 1 out of the gear barrel. According to Caltopo I put on roughly 60 miles/ FRED

Hopefully I can get a trip report with pictures up in a couple of weeks, my daughter does my trip reports and she's pretty busy at the present time, in fact she's suppose to be working on our August trip to Wapakimaski [which is in the fringe of Wabakimi] but I haven't it seen on the board as yet. Glad you had a good trip, must be a remote area to not see anyone, looking forward to hear more about it.

True definition of a solo, not seeing anyone while on the trip. Sounds like a challenge and that you had some great moments.

Hi Fred,

Did you go east off the road toward Kapka River Provincial Park? I have been looking at that route for a while.

What was your route?

Thanks

Tony; I went west UP RIVER off the BrightSand River bridge, then portaged around Johnson rapids, worked my way SW through several sets of rapids to the BrightSands Lake, went SW across the lake, weaved and wandered through a set of rapids and lots of islands into Metionga Lake, then headed mostly west toward HardDog Lake but couldn't get up that creek so I turned around and went back to the truck dropped off some gear had a coke and headed DOWN the BrightSands River into the very south end of Harmon Lake. Shot a set of rapids on to the way to Rude lake, went sort of NW into "Stephens" lake and had a layover day there. Went UP river back to the BrightSands road and home again. FRED

I'm toying with the idea of heading UP the Kashishibog River towards the Kopa Provential Park next year but that's a lot of H2O and it's a year away, wait and see. FRED

Beautiful area and the walleye will almost jump in your boat. Same for the pike!
