Hey all, I am looking at taking the beloved boxed hashbrowns in with me this year. Our group is 5, three men two lovely ladies.

Box says serves 7, but only a 1/3 cup portion. I was thinking I will take two boxes as we are bound to be hungry and some good taters for breakfast will be welcome fare.

What's your experience with them? How many will one box feed in canoe country?

I buy them for more than canoe trips; and honestly who would only eat a 1/3 cup serving? Even with adding a bell pepper, onion, and zucchini and serving it with sausage, I’ve only got 3 servings out of a box.

I usually split a box to get 2 individual freezer bag meals, even with some sausage and peppers added. 7 servings/box isn't something I can wrap my head around.

I get 3 servings from a box, no more than that. It's 1 lb of potatoes rehydrated.

One box feeds myself and two sons, but I'm sure that we could finish off two!

FWIW: We make instant mashed potatoes one meal and the box says 16-17 servings. No matter the size of the group of 6-9, it's gone.

I usually trip with only grown men and hungry teenagers. And we base camp, so weight is less an issue than for trippers.

On my food planning I usually double all printed serving sizes on containers. Normally I weigh out all meal items into zip locks, so I can get my target portions accurate. So a 7 serving hash brown box is likely 3 or 4 in my book.

But if the containers are easily doubled I might leave it in original container. Hash browns are nice because you can rehydrate in the container with hot water.

I agree, two boxes per 5 people per sitting would probably be perfect.
